A friend at work told me today that the yard where she keeps her horse is in isolation lock down. A mare, that was imported (I dont know when) and has a foal at foot and is in foal (I believe), has lost a lot of weight. She said she has a bacteria that eats away inside. The horses stable has been covered and her top door area covered with plastic sheeting with air holes. All the other horses in that block have been turned out in a field.
What could this be any ideas. She said it had a long name

Sounds really sad, the closed in with little air couldnt be good for her either or the foal, wouldnt it be kinder to just put her down, will it affect the foal at foot, let alone the unborn one.

I will try to find out more but I work earlies and friend works lates and she was a bit vague about it. When she said it had lost lots of weight I thought grass sickness but she said it had a long complicated name. I am sure vets are doing their best.
