What indicates a 'good' owner?

Surely a good owner carefully considers the needs of their horse and strives to adequately provide for those needs. To rug or not to rug is irrelevant - one horse which has been "roughed off" and is not over groomed can live out quite happily without a rug, whereas another might drop weight at the first sign of a breeze and a drop of rain. It is qiite possible for people to keep their horses completely differently and yet all be good owners.

Absoutely, My horses are very well cared for, fed, etc.. but not molycoddled at all, for the most part, they do not need to be rugged during the summer, unless they are particial to rainscald. However, my sister thinks that her horses are her babies, and nearly has them in babygrows. She has often rang me when she's at work to go out and put on/off their rugs, depending on the weather, during the summer. in winter, they are rugged to their eyeballs, and she has infra red lamps in the stables. (In my eyes, soo sad). Her horses are always sickly and pick up everything, but yet, i'm the bad owner. Everyone to their own, as they say, but horses are tough, and used to the elements, so pussy footing around them too much is crazy. xx
