What info can vets give about previous owners?

My boy came with a passport with naf all information, apart from a vets stamp with the date of when his next vaccinations were due with whoever that owner would have been. I just wondered before I start pestering the vet whether what they would actually be able to tell me?!

No - they wouldn't be able to tell you the name of the former owner. However, they might agree to give your details to the former owner who MIGHT then contact you (assuming the horse doesn't have a million problems and they were glad to get shot of it!)

They cant tell you anything at all did try that with my mare as we were trying to find out what the hell had happened to her. However on my passport it also had the address of previous owner who actually turned out to be about 5 owners beforehand. So could trace a bit of her history and turned out they had same vet as i used as well so helped a little in the respect that knew she was healthy beforehand and had only one accident on the leg that she was now sound on.

Depends who vets are the person i spoke to wouldnt pass info on, guess if you catch them on a good day they may offer some help by giving your info to old owners. But dont hold too much hope on it.

due to the data protection act the vets are not legally allowed to give you information
