2. bucked off damaged back ( vertebrae 3-4-5 )
3. fracture collar bone and shoulder blade

years of pain ibuprofen back going out due to number 2

4. slipped disk and sciatica ( later on due to number 2 )
took ibuprofen due to sciatica was told that was the best thing i could do or i would have bee paralyzed for life)

Epidural into back due to number 2

5. horse fell while jumping ruptured tendon off my thumb

6. got Bronked off landed on school post and show jumps was told i should not have survived that

That's just the horse related injuries .

And I ask myself why do I keep on horse riding lol :D

Broken fingers
Cracked and smashed teeth
Both shoulders joints damaged.
Both acromioclavicular joints damaged
Broken toes
Dent in leg from a kick
Concussion
All i can think of at the moment

hmmm......Broken Pelvis but not from a fall just from an overly excited horse and me being stood in the wrong place at the wrong time..........My mother however has had both collar bones broken and a few bouts of concussion due to horses landing on her.

Leviathan and marydoll - Crikey!

I've had a badly sprained ankle from being trampled by a Shetland,
A fat lip from being bitten by a horse on said lip,
Numerous bruises from the current beasties bites (he's had some pain issues and spent most of his early like being force feed treats in return for obedience, not be me I should to add)
Suspected broken coccyx - turned out to be badly bruised.

Hole in my head.
Hematoma on lower leg from a kick
Hematoma on upper leg from a kick (same horse, same leg)
broken toe from being stood on
cracked my wrist falling off

Oh I forgot livery reared up and boxed at me to let go of the rope and when i wouldn't he came down reared again and came down on me left me lying on the floor swollen hand and landed on me .

Below one of the 15 bruises i got from being bronked off

My worst one (and hopefully remains the worst - TOUCH WOOD!) was when I stupidly fell off riding through a narrow wood (at a walk might I add!), horse jumped sideways, I got caught in low branches and got dragged off. Horse flipped as I still had hold of reins and reversed over me. Very luckily he just stepped on my thigh and clipped my other knee. Had a hoof shaped bruise and a mega swollen knee. Plus took the skin off my shoulder getting dragged along a sandy gravely path. Now I know why during my NVQ riding they always made us wear long sleeves!

Very lucky to get away with what I did as horse was a shire x - Wouldn't have liked his full weight on my knee

- Dislocated hip which trapped a nerve (horse bronced after a fence)
- Cracked sternum (double barrelled in the chest, totally my fault, I thought the pony had seen my, put my hand on his bum... he hadn't seen me - so be careful!!!)
- And lots of bumps and bruises

I've been quite lucky really!! :o

Broken collarbone (a bolter), broken metatarsal twice, ripped arm from barbed wire retrieving my horsenapped pony from the local scumbag's field... probably the worst was a torn ligament, broken ankle and cellulitis after impaling my ankle on a rusty spike. Apparently by the time I was admitted to high dependency I was 24 hours away from losing my leg :o

And my friends think horse riding is dangerous ;)

Broken leg in 9 placed with foot hanging off :(
A freak accident out hacking, landed so fast and hard on the inside of my ankle, it just severed all bar a bit of skin :D

Worst part was I was out on my own and my pony pissed off and left me, tw*t he was lol

Also been catapulted off and knocked unconscious, twice in fact but the first was due to horse tripping, second time I was bronced off.

Not actually sure why I still ride?

broken finger,
severe bruising of pelvis, damaged rotator cuff in shoulder,
fractured back, leading to prolapsed discs,
broken toes from muppet TB landing on my foot when he spooked,
3 cases of concussion (probably explains alot )
ive also had a badly sprained ankle after fallling over while carrying feed buckets, ( not sure that counts :) )
kx

Badly brusied foot and leg
split lip and tooth nearly knocked out
black eyes
Two broken hands at the same time!!
Fractured foot (riding!)
Badly bruised arm (as in black from wrist to elbow!) with a huge lump after hitting a post and rail fence!! Still got the bump 2 years on!

Any many more minor injuries!!

Daughter broke right collar bone & completely smashed left thumb in same accident when she got stride wrong to a fence & the fatty tumbled & fell on her. Was a bit awkward explaining to school why she had both arms in slings! & i wasn't impressed having to wipe a 13yr olds bum!!!!

Nice fleshy chunk out of my elbow and a broken scaphoid after me and horse falling over on a tarmac track after she bolted and tried to take a corner at flat out gallop.

Broken rib after horse I went to try put in a dirty stop in canter whilst kindly dropping his shoulder.

That's just in the space of a year. :o

Over the years I've had too many hacking incidents and arena incidents to remember the worst
But my injuries have included

2 broken arms (both jumping related)

1 broken collar bone (jumping a ditch that went wrong)

Torn muscles in my back, and compressed vertibrae - (I was hacking a new 5 year old, and he bucked me off and then he kicked me in the back) causing a back ache that lasted continously for years and ended any competitive jumping. I still walk with a slight twist, but the pain has now finally gone, and I do dressage instead of jumping now :) (although I've recently started working hunter classes again so am jumping up to 2'9'' but will probably never want to go any bigger :D)

Knocked out unconcious - (Cork-screw bronking TB who was being freaked out by an out of control dog, that attacked us in the woods)

I still have a dodgy neck, and feel a burning sensation in my spine if i bend my head down towards my chest. It's been like that for well over a year and happened after a horrid fall onto rock hard ground, off my 17.2 ex-racer just before it was discovered he had KS.

Too many bruises and hematoma's to remember how they happened.

Bloody horses. Why do we bother?

Too many bruises to mention including a fractured left wrist, a dent in my knee where horse decided to kindly kick me when I was trying to catch her. My knees ache and I cant kneel on the floor without my knees and ankles hurting. The joys of horse riding.

Broken wrist (not diagnosed at the time) and multiple cuts and bruises from a fall on the road and getting dragged
Broke same wrist five years later (which is when we found out that i had broken it the first time!) in a fall when I landed on it.

Numerous bumps bruises and cuts over the years after...

BIG africa shaped bruise on my bum when I got bucked off going down a bank (not a bad injury by any stretch, but it makes me laugh!)

Definately did something to my lower back when I was sumersaulted over a horses head on the road, landing flat on my back - still aches now (5 years on) but never enough to bother a doctor with.

Broke my neck when my stirrup iron broke and I couldnt pull the horse up after another mile of galloping - so bailed out. (having told people for years NOT to bail out, I find out why!!) got knocked out, concussed and generally very very sore. The neck break only got found after a year when I was still in just as much pain as at the time, and none of the physio and chiro work had helped - I went to my own doctor (who has horses and understands falling off!!) she referred me for x-rays (while swearing about the hospital I went to in the first instance not x-raying me at the time) and after them, the break was diagnosed. MRI later and a long lecture about how if it had been found at the time Id have been in a halo and how I dont realise how lucky I am - Im not meant to ride any more without a zillion caveats (basically Im not allowed to do anything fun any more!!) :(

Not all bad though - my horse cant be ridden any more either - so she is breeding and Im enjoying winters not thinking how horrible the weather is and i still have to get out and ride ;)

Thrown off when jumping and landed on my back over a pole when I was 13/14 and have had constant problems with my back since.
Horse fell over a fence when SJ and I was severely winded and had said horse landed full on on top of me, I'd have broken my hip.
Fractured toe from being stomped on in flip flops (my own fault, yes, I know..)
Many many many bruises.
Many many many cuts.
Did have one nasty cut from horse barging through the electric gate when I was opening it, and electric fencing (which was on) went across my ankle.
Severe concussion from a fall late last year that I was told I should have gone to hospital immediately for, as I was still suffering from the head aches after a week...
And various other concussive states, most painfully coming off on the road.

And most recently, this from being kicked...
ETA: I had to go to hospital cause of this. Doc said had the kick been any higher, or had the horse had shoes on, it would have been a lot worse and may have burst a vein. Any lower and my whole knee would have been shattered.
This happened a month ago now, and the muscle where I was kicked is still tense, and I can't stretch it as much as I previously could. After a while of rising trot I really aches, and where the cut is has left a horrible purple scar. Lovely.

A cut on my right arm from catching it on the gate and thinking I could pull myself free.
And finally, a bruised knee from horse rushing through a gate way while I was still opening the gate, and said knee having to squeeze through a 2 inch gap.

That's it... For now...

I read about 8/9 of these and thought

OMG I am NOT reading anymore!!! My confidence is pretty good right now but I want it to stay that way :D

I badly fractured my ankle 3 years ago, it was put back together wrong and I ended up having a replacement joint. That came lose in April and had to have part of it done again. Back riding again now

Lots of scrapes and bruises besides

Oh my god some of you are so brave to get back on and actually make me feel quite lucky to have only ruptured my spleen and have a numb hip!

3 month stay in hospital from-

Fractured femur
Collapsed lung(pneumothorax)
Torn liver
Broken ribs
Tear in diaphram:p
Damaged back
Mis-aligned knee cap
Torn shoulder ligaments
Resulted in knee replacement and various other ops. and told not to ride again.

However have just bought a 6 year old ISH - I never learn!:p

I've never broken a bone from riding *frantically grabs a wooden table*. I have sprained my knee, had numerous bruises (including one where the area is still numb now... probably ought to get that looked at...), and a severe concussion - I think I've gotten off lightly so far!

Not broken anything but have:
- Been bucked off, landed shoulder first, mashed up all the muscles and couldn't move my shoulder/wear rucksacks etc for a few weeks but had to be put in a neck brace at the hospital because they thought i may have damaged my neck too - very scary!
- Got trapped between 2 horses and a gate when riding through a gate - other horse tried to turn and come through and leant on the gate and my leg took full impact as the gate got trapped between my horse and him - that is still kind of dodgy and had a huge bruise and is still quite painful and swollen after riding but nothing serious. Had a nice purple leg for prom at the end of june as i did it 3 days before
- Fallen off when my horse fell jumping and hurt most of my body - bruises kept appearing and kept getting pains everywhere but nothing was broken and that was ok after about a week

So overall not done too badly compared to some others on here who are very brave!!!
