so what injuries have you got fallen off your horses? lol and how did you get them?
mine are:
broken collar bone from being rolled on,
broken toe from being stood on
dent in leg from being trapped between horse + jump
oh, and concussion from some falls.
well i have broken 3 finger horse stood on them, broken 2 toes from been stood on , i have dislocated my shoulder from fallen off then dragged , lots of cuts and bruises and concussion
Dislocated shoulder from one fairly nasty unceremonious dumping, several cracked ribs, fractured wrist and broken finger from another bad fall - well I went sailing off after a half hour spinning and broncing session and hit a post and rail fence hard. That was when my confidence was shattered and I gave up for 5 years lol!
and a very bruised face and shoulder when horse fell on me and thought it would be nice to place his hoof on my face and push up lol the pig , but all i got was bruising ,
cracked skull (in the dark ages where few wore hats, and those we had were velvet and not very protective)
twisted pelvis
twisted pelvis ...again..and a fracture apparently
broken finger
broken toe
not bad for 4 decades of riding, including some pretty fast and furious cross country stuff in my younger days - sadly the pelvis injuries have gone on to cause lifelong discomfort to the extent that some days I can't lift my leg to put on a sock, never mind get on a horse
I broke my wrist when my horse bolted and fell into a concealed ditch on top of me. He got a twisted gut though and had to have surgery so I was lucky...
I had a crushed spleen from TB that tripped and came over on top of me, had to have an emergency operation to take it out. I was lucky, i didn't go to hospital until the day after and they said if i was any later i wouldn't be here
But haven't really had anything else, just the usual knocks and brusies.
Broken finger (ouch, bone through skin not nice).
Broken toe
Concussion
Black eyes
Badly scratched face (attached by tree out hunting)
Smashed kneecaps (ditto).
In no particular order
Broken toes from being stood on
Broken finger
Broken finger
Broken finger
(all at different times and different fingers, from being dragged about. Two were set by the vet - brilliantly
)
Dislocated knee from horse shying into a tree
Knocked out teeth from horse rubbing head on me
Split lip " " " " " "
Dislocated knee, misaligned leg from horse knocking me over. Resulted in surgery to pin knee and re-align leg, followed by 1 year of phyio
Like Mother Hen said, not really too bad as I have been riding for over 45 years and owned horses for 30.
most of mine are from being on the ground around horses
in no particular order
Dislocated shoulder (right side)
Fractured ball joint in shoulder (left side)
two broken ribs
fractured cheekbone
broken toes/fingers
broken ankle
Broken arm - cantering down hill in a western saddle and the stirrup leather came away on one side. We had grounds to sue (tourist ranch - yet only checked saddles once a year).
Broken jaw, cheekbone, cracked skull all from one injury resulting in rewiring and plates.... Id look impressive with a shaved head!
Consusion several times - enough the Doc has told me no more head falls till im at least 30, another 8 yrs to go! - one put me unconcious and in hosp for a week...
other than that just bruises...
NOTE TO SELF - STOP LANDING ON YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive had 2 horses fall on me, and been very lucky both times *touches wood* both were 17.2
i have only ever
dislocated my shoulder and had a funny elbow/foot from the first horse fall
and the 2nd one i had a dodgy leg and knee (opposite ones!)
i have only ever broken my 2nd finger on left hand...this was about 5 years ago...i was at a lucinda green clinic...first fence...1ft6 log and the horse got me off and ran off with my finger in the rein. luckily someone else did the same thing at exactly the same time over a 1ft6 tyres! hehehe
im a bit too lucky for my own good it seems
Concussion.
Torn soft tissue in shoulder and possible collarbone fracture but none of the doctors could agree.
Broken wrist.
Shin splint where a delightful horse threw me off then trod on me.
Many broken toes.
Cracked ribs and top of hip chipped off, from leading a horse out to the field, he ran off and bucked with me on the end of his back feet.
One fat hip from where a horrid horse sunk his jaws around me whilst I was leaving the yard for a hack, and tried to drag me off my pony into his stable, am now left with a lump the size of a bar of soap.
Fractured nose from me and the pony clashing heads when we both look round in different directions!
Broken fingers - got stuck in rope leadrope when horse did a runner
Broken pelvis fell of 4yo (my now 19yo) and landed on foot of jump wing
Fractured shin (lengthways) - missed stride, horse put down, I didn't
Discolcated shoulder
Dislocated knee (trying out horse for loan and still took him!)
Loads of bruising
Broken tooth root (that hurt!) after stupid TB threw it's head up an smacked me
Whiplash coming off pony on road after a motorbike hit her (pony ok)
Er .... can't think of any more but (touching wood), nothing too serious or requiring hospitalisation
Concussion
broke 2 legs at same time and shattered ankle resulting in surgery and pins and plate still can't remember the accident
broken arm
broken wrist
dislocated shoulder
broken coller bone
brust lips
bruise foot quite often with my stupid mare even althought i where steel toe cap boots
badly bruise pelvis
i have hurt practicly every bone in my body at some point
concussion quite a few times as a kid, despite always wearing a hat.
broken foot when horse trod on it in my younger days.
few years ago I fell off onto a jump and broke ribs and cracked my pelvis.
fell off whilst trying a horse with a view to buy (not George) and broke my nose and broke and dislocated my finger.
got bucked off George at a show and he accidently trod on my leg - parts of it still numb now 5 mths later!
Still not too bad for 31 years riding (goes off to touch wood!!)
Virtually severing my left arm. It was hanging on by a bit of skin just at my elbow. I still have no feeling from the scar down to finger tips on that arm, whilst the scar site itself is incredibly painful. Got a doozer of a scar though! It;s the kind of scar that makes other people wince!!!
Blimey does make you wonder why we do it doesn't it?
I broke the ball joint of my left shoulder when I was 11 after falling off a bolting horse that decided to jump an oil drum. I landed on my elbow.
Seriously squished foot after being stood on twice in ten minutes (don't ask
)
Nasty thumb injury after Ellie spooked and knocked me over and then promptly fell over the top of me
Concussion after being dumped on the wall by bolting horse in an arena
Lots of being trodden on and bitten when a child, by the time I was a teenager I learned to move quicker!
Broken ankle, broken toe in a fall.
Concussion three times (horse fell each time)
Broke three bones in my hand and thumb, now have arthritis in that joint.
Lots of falls where I was severely bruised and X rayed but ended up just bruised..
Broke ankle (different one) out hunting and boyfriend the huntsman refused to wait whilst I took my horse home, so I carried on resulting in it swelling inside my boot and having to have them cut off..(boots then cost a fortune and I cried)
I can't really remember to be honest, but nowadays I don't do daft things on horses and tend to think more when I handle them..If I think I might get hurt now I let go..
