Hi,

I keep my horses at rented fields near to my house but not at home, they are not insured for vet fees but I should ensure I am covered for public liability, what is the best way to do this? What does rider insurance cover?

I read on a recent post that you can be covered for public liability on your house insurance, my policy states the following, so does that mean I covered already:-

Liability to the public - If following an accident someone dies, is injured, falls ill or has their property damaged during the period of insurance, we will cover the legal liability of you or your family as:-

- Occupiers of the home
- Private individuals

The most we will pay for any claim arising from one incident, including claimants costs, is £2,000,000.

Within the section of what they will not pay:- any liability arising from:-

-any animal, other than horses and domestic pets

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

You need to get a specific third party public liability cover to no less than £10,000,000 (Ten million pounds). (Recent court case demonstrated this). Join the BHS as a gold member and you will get insurance cover to this amount. Your household insurance will not cover you.
