What insurance do you recommend?

Depends what you're doing.

When sat in field only 3rd party, anything worth pursuing with vet I have backup funds for and anything major would be pts. When working (but on own land) 3rd party and me. When actually backed and going out, I'd consider vet fees etc. (This is for general youngsters I own though, who tend to be mongrels who I collect as no-one else wanted. The ones worth a few bob would have higher insurance (and left to OH and his dad :D))

Lots of it comes down to individual horse. Would I be prepared to pay X amount upfront for vet if needed. Would I be prepared to box rest if necessary (not normally). Would I be able to make the pts call because I'd chosen not to insure to a higher value. etc etc.

He is currently just a field ornament. Comes into the yard for a bit of a pamper etc but do want to start walking him out in hand soon.

What insurance companies have a good name? I have my Miniature Shetland with petplan but apparently they're rubbish? So will change hers too if need be.

If out in hand, phone round get quotes and ask what their policy is for this (in writing) ie bridle required etc.

I'd use most bar E&L only major thing for me is 3rd party must be covered in all eventualities.

BHS might be enough for now, but depends on horse, what's he's worth (monetary and personally) etc. Very personal choice imo.

He isn't worth a lot to the market but he's worth everything to me personally :o I will phone around tomorrow, haven't got time now as I'm off to work.

Thank you for the advice :)
