what is a reasonable sharing cost

Same topic, same attitude from you.

If you feel so inclined, be my guest. You are in a very aggressive mood this evening - are you ok?

Maybe she needs to let the frustration out with a bloody good gallop. BS, I'd be delighted to invite you to come and ride my other horse - completely free of charge, to make you feel a bit happier. There is a high risk that he will dump you on your head, but if he doesn't, you'd have a lovely relaxing time - and if he does, you'll be distracted from being silly on the forum. Win Win situation

****** me - with that attitude you're doing no-one a favour!

Win, win - for you - again.....

OP in response to your question, your horse sounds lovely and you could charge around £30 a week :) or you could let blazingsaddles do you a massive favour and let her ride him for free?!

I note that you haven't responded to my earlier question. Stumped you, has it.

You don't want to come and ride Alf then? I make an offer, purely out of generosity, for you to come and have a ride on a horse that an awful lot of people would give their eye teeth to have a sit on, and you don't even bother to respond. I meant it as well...

Nope, realistic for the area the horse is in and what is on offer

Unlike you I expect to pay my fair share of what it costs to keep a horse and not freeload off of others.

Freeloaded? Oh, you mean allowing someone to look after your horse & get paid for it. Now thats a win win.

OP - good luck with getting a lovely sharer for your lovely horse.

BS - the perfect initials for what your posts contain.

Everyone else - I'm out...I've said my bit and every comment back to BS on here is just giving attention. Any more posts from me will just be for the benefit of the OP if needed.

Why would I want to ride your horse? I've got my own horse to ride. Thanks for the offer, I'm sure Alf is a pleasure, but I value my brain & wouldn't want to damage it - then I'd end up paying you for the privilege!

Thanks to everyone that has tried to be helpful. If I do decide to take on the second neddy I will take your advice and go for £25-30 per week for my friend to share :-)

Seeing as the sharer wouldn't have chores to do, and they would have good facilities, I think 20-30 pounds (sorry, US keyboard with no pound symbol!) per week would be perfectly reasonable.

.... Except they're not looking after it, the livery yard is being paid to do that job so the sharer just gets to rock up and ride on a schoolmaster - they are not being asked to school the horse on and are not looking for a professional rider, what's being offered is an excellent opportunity for a keen pleasure rider who can't afford their own horse.

That's your prerogative of course. I enjoy riding different horses (although, I shamefacedly admit that I usually do it for money), and if I didn't have a horse like him, and was offered a go - I'd most definitely bite their hand off (and I wouldn't charge!)

If I had the time & travelling costs were included.........

At that point you have to be pretty bloody good on the horse to make it worth them paying you?! My sister charges for her travel costs. But also she charges £12/ hour and it is her job.

The heat is getting to people it seems... This isn't exactly a horse that needs improving or reschooling, so whoever gets to share him is benefiting from someone else's hard work making him into a nice horse.

Its a very generous offer indeed. But you are clearly the rider for him. And owners pay you to ride their horses - well, thank goodness, I'm not the only one who believes you should pay people for their time!

There's a difference though. I don't charge for my time. I charge for my professional services

It's actually a really interesting topic and BS has some good points, along with other posters. Perhaps though a fresh thread should be started asking what is expected from a sharer so that this thread isn't derailed. I personally think that £200 is excessive and I've kept horses for substantially less but very different circumstances. It sounds like a great opportunity for someone to learn stuff. The reality is if the OP wants to charge for it and her friend is happy to pay it then why not? She would pay much the same, possibly a bit less, for a lesson once a week. The balance however comes back to what is expected from a sharer...
