what is classed as low starch feed

I think less then 20% is cconsidered low. I try to feed less than 15%. Spillers pony nuts are 16.5% and D&H fibre nuts are 13.5% and they are both considered non heating feeds for light work.
Baileys working horse and pony
nuts are 20% which is the same as D&H pasture nuts and pasture mix is 26% these are for medium work.
Competition mix I think is somewhere between 25-30%.
Feeds like the spillers slow release energy cubes are around 12%, but still high energy as high in oil, the slow release mix is 20%.

Allen and page ride and relax is 15% starch, calm and condition is now 12 odd % which is really good, lower starch than their hacking cubes!

Compare starch with digestible energy as some of the low starch, slow release feeds can be high in digestible energy which is still energy at the end of the day and can put weight on/still make some horses feel too good!

Sorry that was probably more waffling than you wanted!
:)

You weren't waffling don't worry. my horse had laminitis a few years ago and hes lost some weight recently so i'm thinking of changing his feed and was trying to compare all the different levels. I was recommended DandH staypower cubes, Baileys no 2. and soft and soak ready mash extra. Trying to figure out which one is the best!
