What is general practice for leaving yards?

In my last thread I mentioned my issues with my yard owner not allowing my horse to move fields/come in to his stable due to another horse in there. Today I went to get him in, the TB's were already in but I was adament that I was bringing mine in as I'm paying for my stable. Got him out of the field, onto the road outside the gate. As I was walking him away the pony ran straight into the gate, my pony spooked, ran forward, slipped and landed on his bum as his legs slipped from underneath him. Because of this he's now missing chunks out of his hind hooves from the force of him slipping. He's had to be left out without a rug on once again just to keep someone elses horse happy.
I've been to look at 3 more yards today, the first was £140 per month including a proper barn stable, floodlit sandschool, same sex turnout and quiet road hacking while including hay/haylege and straw bedding. One was £145 for a dark sand floored stable, haylege and a sand school. Then other we drove down the drive and turned straight back without getting out.
I've decided to go to the first one, at least for the summer/mid autumn until my chosen yard has a space. The yard has said they can pick up my horse on sunday evening or morning. I haven't seen my current YO this week yet, I usually pay per month on the 1st. But I haven't paid her yet. There's no contract so I see it as no notice is needed, how much should I pay though? Do I pay for the week I've been there or for the whole month? What would you do? And also how would you approach the subject? I don't want to fall out with her as if I did urgently need somewhere to go then I'd like to be able to go back.
 
Usually your notice period is the frequency as your payments. So if you usually pay your livery monthly you'd give a months notice, if you pay weekly you'd give a weeks notice etc.
 
If you pay monthly then legally you have to give a months notice (whether you stay that month is your decision)

If you paid weekly you would only have to pay a week
 
Agree with the others, a full month is needed.
Your YO may let you off, one of mine has done in the past as she had somebody to fill my stable.
 
If you pay monthly, your notice period is a month, and you do have a contract, even if it isn't written down.
If you don't want to burn your bridges, ring the YO, pay the months livery, tell her that you are giving her notice and that the horse will be leaving on Sunday.
 
You should give a months notice. But can leave when you like, as long as the notice period is paid for in full.
 
Our yard asks for one week notice regardless of the way you pay.

There is no deposit, so no money to return.

Hmm, normally I would agree with the above, however, under the circumstances and considering the danger you and your horse have been put in, the yo's failure to act to stop this, plus the fact that you are paying for a stable but unable to use it due to Yo's crap management... I personally would only give yo the finger as I was driving away with my horse.
 
Pay for July now and leave when you want. Like you said, you might want to go back. The horsey world is a small place - don't make a bad name for yourself for the sake of a months livery cost.

As much as I agree with your sentiments, the OP stated that she would like to be able to return to the yard if she needed to, the very satisfying finger would ensure that is absolutely not possible ever ;)

I have no problem paying the full month, obviously I'd rather keep my £130 for my transport and monthly bill at the new yard but hey ho! Although other people have left the yard without paying her or letting her know, they took their trailer to the gate of their field and loaded on the road side before driving away and texted her telling her they'd left. Another left with a weeks notice and didn't have to pay for the month, just the 2 weeks they were there. She has no issue filling my stable, there's 110 horses on that yard and only 90 stables.
I'm pretty sure she knows my intentions as I've spoken to a family friend (who owned my pony last) and she's agreeing that I'm essentially only getting grass keep but paying more for no reason. I'm leaving due to getting pinned at the gate by two big TB's as they kick 10 shades out of each other and my horse, he's coming in with injuries and today he was slightly limping up the field to me with a swelling on his rump and yet I can't bring him in because I don't want to upset anyones horses. I've asked 3 times and been brushed off because I don't pay the normal DIY rate. I can't bring him in, I can't bring him in by myself because these horses surround the gate and attack me and my pony and my rug is torn to pieces. I'm offering the week, if she demands the month then fine. however, part of her contract is to provide a safe environment for me to keep my horse, she hasn't kept to that and now I'm going to have to call the farrier out three weeks early to balance his hooves out from the crappy ground in the field and the fact that my horse fell on his back end on tarmac.
