I'm sooooo frustrated! I've been horse hunting for a while and so far don't think I've met
A) a sound horse
B) a correctly discribed horse
C) an owner that wasn't hiding something that later emerged!
and normally they have been all of the above!

I'm not asking the world and I know nothing is perfect however I'm still no closer to finding something which is half way there. I think I have a realistic budget which makes it even more scary. Any suggestions anyone?

I keep hearing this, is it that there are more and more dodgy dealers out there, or that people are desperate to sell in this climate so they are claiming they are something they aren't in order to sell? What are you after?

I know there are exceptions!!

However these are the reasons why when I was horse hunting, both times I stopped going to view anything that had been advertised for more than about a week in today climate I would say 2 wks. Otherwise I found that other people had viewed and already come to the above conclusions

then again both times I bought the very next horse I saw, both were advertised only hours before

All the horses I've looked at have been privately owned. I think people are just getting desperate and delude themselves about what they have actually got.
I'm looking for something thats got 3 good correct paces, can do a nice dressage test and can hack safely alone and in company. Between about 14.3hh and 15.3hh upto about 9 years old.

That works if infact anyone has actually phoned about the horse in the first place!!!!! There are alot of horses for sale out there that I bet haven't even had 1 visit!! Whether that be because of where the horse is or the market for that particular breed/type/age etc isn't a very fast market??!!!

I'm going to have to sell my mare this year and have things to mention allready written down.
She will take a pot shot at you if you try to dunk her tail in a bucket whilst washing - using a jug does the trick.
She is pushy in the field so will squeal alot and try to throw her weight around, but since having the foal is now bottom of the pecking order!
She has one ovary slightly forward of where it should be, so will sometimes be tetchy if asked to jump whilst in season, but will not affect her ridden work or in the show ring.
I wouldnt dream of not mentioning these things, and was extremely frustrated before I bought her, as every other horse I went to see before that was just not as described. My oh still laughs about the shire horse we went to see that was advertised as a IDXTB because when it came out of the stable even he whispered "ask her if it comes with the plough" , and he knows nothing about horses! (not saying I dont like shires because they can be good allrounders, but I wasnt going to buy one).

We are either looking at the same horses or this is rife at the moment - I have now reached a point that I don't believe a word I'm told and do serious research on the seller as well as the horse!

i think i may stick my cob on the market for a silly price just to free up some cash! as it seems every one wants the perfect horse.. which to be fair hes not far off.. and yes he passed a 5 stage vetting!

When I was looking I quickly gave up on private sellers, they were either deluded or liars....

The best viewings I had were at dealers with good reputations. Didn't see any horses at these that wasn't worth looking at. The reason I didn't buy was because is simply wasn't the right horse.... But had been described well. I did end up buying from a dealer and could do again without hesitation!

This isn't a new phenomenon, this is typical horse hunting IME. Fact is, people keep the good ones and sell the lame, screwed up, irritating ones. Keep looking, especially in this climate there are horses out there for sale due to circumstances and not due to their own issues.

Have you seen any youngsters that have been produced to sell? IMO these are the most likely to be for sale through no fault of their own.

Hostess 99 and Hollysmum - if you want to pm me I may know of something you might like - not mine, but my daughter is helping someone sell/loan their 6yr old gelding - green but good paces - not advertised publicly yet.
