Because I am not a horsey person and am primarily on here for trailer towing licence and weight issues I have no idea what the various terms used in other posts mean so help me out please with a few common ones and what they mean :D

Hacking - when you get a sword/sharp implement and repeatedly hit one's horse "Hack at it" to make it go out of it's stable and around the countryside with a human on its back.

Bolting - when you hack at your horse too much that it decides to take you on a rally drive around the countryside and will go through gates and hedges and over busy roads

Driving - when you hack at your horse with a longer whip and use emotional abuse through verbal shouting to get your horse to take a box with wheels through the countryside. The box is heavier than just a human which is why you have to have a longer whip and shout abuse at them too.

Whip - a stick covered in fabric for hacking at your horse.

High Viz- something people who do lots of hacking at their horses wear on the roads.

Hacking means riding out, so could be either riding on roads, bridlepaths, land you have permission to ride on or a combination.

Hacking - Riding out and about, I usually take hacking to mean anything but schooling in an arena or a field.

Schooling - When riding in an arena or field, usually done to to improve a horses way of going or how they listen to the aids

Bolting - When a horse get spooked and just runs, usually doesn't stop for love nor money and will jump/run over anything in it's path (not to be confused with running off)

Running off - When a horse gets a little excited and charges forward not listening to the rider, usually doesn't happen for more than 5/6 strides (steps)

Dressage - When horse and rider have to perform a set of 'moves' (called a test) aim is to look the best but also to give quiet subtle aids.

ODE/One day event - A one day event consiting of dressage, showjumping and cross country.

Crosscountry/XC - Horse (and rider usually :p) navigate a series of obsticals, unlike showjumping these obsticals are solid and cannot be knocked.

Driving - Taking your horse/s out in cart
