What is he doing ?

My bulldog spends about an hour or more licking the air after his tea, he doesn't make a noise or anything untoward he just licks air.

I can't make sense of it at all does anyone have any ideas.

Has he always done it? Maybe he has some food stuck in the roof of his mouth or in his teeth or have you checked for a cleft palette?

Does he gulp air? This is called aerophagia ... is your dog overly flatulent? Be aware of GDV as bulldogs are a breed susceptible. Before you panic, if your dog always does this and does not pace around whilst doing it and look colicky, I would be more inclined to think that maybe it is something like the poster above suggests. I would have a word with your vet if it persists.

Thankyou both, no he hasn't always done it and he's not luckily gulping for air, it seems to cause him no distress at all, just seems a habit he's picked up but its very odd.
