Hes good with decent electric fencing so I'm not too worried about that. But having done years of very good doers its never fun anywhere you dont have total control. Probably subconsciously why I prefer the TB. I get immense pleasure from stuffing him full of food! :D

And yup, logically he will sell easily and for a lot of money which could be very useful if I want to upgrade my boat etc, which makes it the obvious thing to do. Im not sure its the right thing to do from the point of view of the emotional investment etc, but life is full of very hard decisions and this is just yet another one!

Having had 3 horses and now just one (not through choice, they all tried to bankrupt me then die ?) and I enjoy it so much more.

I've never been competitive and any aspirations were squashed by a series of broken horses. I never felt like I struggled financially with 3 but I was time poor for anything other than horses.

Just having one means that I can buy all the pretty things (& some useful things like a rug dryer!) and still have a life. I know you've posted about wanting to event and with the way BE costs are going only having one horse to pay for tack/lessons/physio/feed etc makes it slightly more doable.

Yup 3 is too much. I always swore I'd stick to 1 and then ended up here. I've just had a livery place confirmed and could take all 3 but its not happening. Its been necessary on my own yard as juggling the ones who stay alone and having someone to ride with me has all come into play. But at a livery yard I dont need to do that anymore.

And luckily hes not getting out onto a road, hes going into next doors spring barley, but he could potentially get onto the road if he carried on in that direction and none of this is ok on any level. Hes in his stable for the time being and going to a friends at the weekend while I figure the rest of this out.

Do you actually want two to ride? Will you have time?

You could just send the Highland to livery locally and start him there, then loan if you don’t want to sell. I sent our youngster to my friend’s yard to do the pre-backing work as we needed facilities and all I have is hacking. We actually backed her here (in the middle of a hack when she decided being led was for losers and she wanted a rider like everyone else!) but had done the little sits on her, long-reining etc in a school.

Or you could sell him and enjoy the money…

And thats my thought process, round and round! I'm middle aged but I feel like I need an adult to come along and tell me what on earth to do!

Ive slept on it and hes going to be advertised later today. I'm going to ask for offers in the region of 10k and see what happens. If he doesnt sell then he can stay, if he does then thats enough money to have a sizeable impact on my life, so I win either way I guess. It is the only sensible option I think. I am besotted with my big TB, so already have something I think is very special. If I didnt I think I'd make different choices.

Hes off to my friends tomorrow out of harms way for a month, then he will come to the livery yard with me on 1st april if he hasnt sold.

Where do people advertise very expensive M&Ms? Ive never sold anything of his quality before so am a bit clueless

I suggest contacting the Highland Pony society, or enquire on their Facebook page. I have Exmoor ponies and I know that very few Exmoor ponies are sold via the usual sites, most are sold via word of mouth and the society pages. I imagine that Highland ponies will be the same

As mentioned, the HPS or Horsequest.
Just get simple 2 x photos of him from either side and stood up well.

Have plenty more you can send out and get film of him walking in a straight line away and back and same trotting, plus also film him being run out in hand from the side so his movement can be seen objectively.
Good luck! X
