Can you remember what drew you to horses initially?

I know some of us were plonked on the nearest equine reprobate of diminished stature, at the age of three by proud parents! But some have come along later.

Can you remember what it first was that sparked your love for horses?

What made you want to learn to ride, care for and maybe one day own a horse.

My first word was birdy, closely followed by horsie!

I personally think that horses are just perfect aesthetically. I didn't even think about riding one tbh, I just loved to watch, draw and dream about them!

Sad I know...I can't be the only one though :)

A donkey on Margate beach followed a few years later but an evil new forest pony called Rusty that belonged to my friend. Rusty was an extremely difficult and bad tempered pony but as a kid I didn't see that. All I knew was that if I managed to get on him without being bitten I would have a good ride.

I rode Rusty for about a year before getting my own New Forest pony called Rocker Fella. Horses have given me a freedom and passion that has lasted for over 40 years. I have loved and lost many and each hold a special place in my heart but they are my way of life and for as long as I live they will continue to be so. Quite simply I couldn't imagine my life without them .

You arn't the only one.
I grew up in London and when i was small i thought only police men where alowed horses. (Well i only saw policemen riding them and you never see anyone else driving a police car do you) When i was 11 we moved out of London to a slightly more rural area and i descovered horses could be owned by anyone. My parents could not afford for me to have lessons so i went to the local riding school to help out. For two years i worked on a sat, sun and school hols helping muck out, feed, tack up, groom and lead small kids round in the lessons I knew loads on horse care but had never ridden one. The head girl desided i could have free lessons in return for all the help i gave and at 15 my parents bought me Lucy and it was all down hill from there ;) ;) :D :D

I was 11, my friend had a person cancel for her pony party so I got invited last minute. Soon as I sat on that little grey grumpy pony and had my first ride, I was hooked from there on in :)

I didn't learn to ride until I was in my early 20's and I had to overcome a fear of horses to do it. What prompted it was my OH; she wanted to ride again, after a break for uni. She talked me into trying as I was training in Kendo and she bruised my ego (I still had one in those days) by saying that the Samurai were skilled horsemen.

I rode for a few years and then stopped for around 20, only when I returned did I begin to learn to ride properly and to appreciate exactly what the real appeal is.

I grew up in the center of Essex and at age 8, I was allowed a horse riding lesson on my birthday! This went on until I was 12, I had 4 riding lessons in 4 years and dreamt about and drew horses all the time, so you are not alone!

Then moved to Somerset and helped out at my riding school every day after school as I could not afford lessons. Now I am 21 and about to finish uni, loaned a few horses over the past and looked after other people's etc and worked at many different yards.

Only now have I been able to afford a horse and I'm glad it has been this way and not had a pony from the start, not only do I know more now that I used to, but also I can get a horse and not grow out of it :)

It's my mum's fault I started riding!! She injured her back at work severely a good few years back, and we consequently had to cancel a holiday abroad as she was not fit to travel. As a way of making up the disappointment, my parents let my brother and I choose an activity for the summer holidays- bro chose sailing, I chose horse riding in the New Forest at a trekking centre... loved it so much that I started lessons and it just spiralled from there.
