I own "P"oppy"; today on our ride we came across "P"igeons, now old hat, can usually ignore those. "P"heasant - didn't appear to be phased by one taking off fairly close. "P"artridges - been a bit iffy with those - today stopped dead and head up - thankfully when they took off she was fine. Then the "p"iece de resistance was "p"loughed field - what the hell was that! As this was a ride completely out of my comfort zone I am delighted to say we have returned in one piece! I have been quietly riding her ladyship around the field since getting back on her late summer, going further and further out around the field. Today I guessed she was getting bored and beginning to play up a little, so plucked up every ounce of courage and went further afield. NB All our gates have the added bonus of baler twine - thank you OH - l led her in hand down one steep field into the next. She stood beautifully for me to remount from the gate and we went alongside our pool where some guys were fishing, past the big muck tump - a little curious, and then up a steep bank through open gate into next field. Went up another steep slope to next gate where once again she stood whilst I shut and retied gate and re-mounted. This was when the fun started - we have just harvested the maize so there was the odd long stalk and maize cob ready to leap up and attack! Then the partridge and finally some area of the field that had been subsoiled. I realised that this is obviously not firm so can forgive her her hesitation. Got over that and across the final field and then led her the short distance up the lane home. Again a first for me in a long time taking her out onto the road.
I am proud of her and am beginning to look forward to riding her rather than dread it.
