What is it With People and Other Peoples Horses?

I don't trust anyone other than my mum and OH to touch my horses without my supervision... Unless of course in a case of emergency as others have said then I would be grateful to the passer by or whoever. They know how my horses are to be treated, especially the baby who I am doing my damndest to bring up into a well mannered perfect gent! And I trust them to lock the gate etc.

But no, I've had well meaning people offer to help even had a really nice lady ask if they could just go groom them occasionally but I have to say no. I would worry so much, "is she giving them treats?" "is she letting the youngster get into bad habits" "did they remember to turn the electric fence back on" I could go on all day!!

and I'm not sure non horsey people understand the extent to which these animals are the centre of our lives. We spend (well I know I do and I'm sure it's the same for
others) all our time working to pay for them, fretting over them, schooling
and training them and it's all so easily undone even with the best of intentions.

The horsey folk who are doing this stuff... Well they should just know better!!!

We always look out for each others horses, will always ring an owner if a horse is colicking and check what action they want taking in the time before they get there. Same with anything, sweating under rugs on a hot day, injuries etc, will contact the owner but with minor things like a leg caught in rug strap.slipping rug, water knocked over, w'd just get on and do it. Common sense stuff really.
However, taking anothers horse for grooming, riding -and using an electric power point in a stable while someone else's horse is in it is definitely outrageous. Think I'd be a bit freaked out by that.

I have no idea where some people get off to be honest, its utterly barmy.

A few years ago I had a lovely eventer on loan, and got to the yard one day and a girl [who didn't have her own horse, but had been at Hartpury so thought she was an expert] informed me that she would be giving a novice lady a lesson on my horse! And then had the nerve to look offended when I said absolutely not!!
