My pony has developed a lump on his neck over the summer. I have looked through the whole of my BHS manual and cannot find any that match his. It does not get bigger, it doesn't hurt him, it doesn't weep or anything. The equine dentist is coming up next week so I will ask him if he knew what it is. The farrier doesn't know what it is and the vet is coming up next month to do their vaccinations so I will also ask him. But if you think you know what it us, please say. Thanks in advance

Why in god's name would the farrier be able to diagnose a lump on the neck??? Or if it's truly his neck and not his jaw, why would the equine dentist either, come to that? You need the vet hun. Is it affecting the horse in any way? Does he flinch or protest if you touch or press it? Is it under the skin or an open weeping lump? How big is it? Where exactly on his neck is it? If it's under his jaw rather than his neck, you need your vet out fast to make sure it's not strangles or a kick to his head. Is it getting bigger? Any other symptoms like eg stiffness in bending his neck or difficulty stretching down to graze? How old is the horse and what colour is he? Is he losing weight? Still being ridden? It could be a simple swelling from a scratch from brambles where he's stuck his head in a bush or it could be something ghastly at the other end of the scale. I'd get the vet out if you're in any doubt whatsoever x

Firstly, it is under the skin secondly, it is on his neck, thirdly it does not affect him in any way. Also my farrier's parents are vets and he grew up going on calls with his parents also my equine dentists wife works with the mounted police force and has a number of horses under her care to which she generally decides if the vet should come out. He is 8 and grey dun. Not loosing or gaining weight he is ridden 3 times a week normally. It on the off side around three quarters of the way up his neck to his hair line. I will try and get some pics soon. Also it couldn't be a kick because we only have a tiny miniture. They are both field kept.

Also it is around 3 cm in diameter I think. It does not move under his skin either. It is just there. And does not affect him at all.
