What is law regarding travelling horses and passports?

I was under the impression that the passport must accompany the horse at all times, but I can’t find any info on the net.

Not surprising you can't find any info. Heaven forbid we should be kept informed. Yes, the passport is *supposed* to accompany the horse when travelling by trailer/box. I've even heard of the odd person being stopped. Exceptions are the hill ponies (I think!), as they don't have to have passports.

It is not needed when travelling for lessons or hacks.

It is needed when travelling for sale, show, slaughter or stud.
