I used to play the 7 games with Mick as tbh I bought a 6 year old mardy brat who had been allowed to do what he wanted, when he wanted with the last owners.. So when I asked him to do something he didnt want to do, he had a complete paddy and tbh it got totally out of hand.
I then overcame my problems with him, but he decided he wasn't going to load - which is a complete waste of time having the horse for me as I like to go out / compete etc. So along came Richard Maxwell and his techniques, then I looked into Natural Horsemanship.
I am far from being a tree hugger, but I put it like this. I use bits of parelli / NH & RM teqniques which enables me to do what I want with the horse while maintaining safety for both of us. To be honest, most of what I do is common sense. Having a sensetive horse, you sometimes need to do things differently, or take a bit more time while he works things out and accepts them - which he always does nowdays.
