What is the best arabian breeding

I was look at some arabian horses and wondered what is the best breeding to go for, i am looking at something that will make 15.2HH Purebred Arab preferably black colt or stallion.
any help would be very much appriciated.

I have just lost my arab x mare who i have had for the past 15 years, but i am not trying to replace her as nothing could ever do that.
I have experience with youngstock and stallions. I would like the horse to do showing, some breeding and driving.

If you want a black that narrows down your options a bit.

Personally, if I wanted to find a black I'd contact Mrs Westwood at Chapel Lane Arabians, I'd get myself off to AL and I'd drop a pm to HTobago on here.

Do you prefer Crabbet? Egyptian? Polish? A very personal thing.

On a quick look at the arab side, I think it is very high % crabbet. Crabbet/Old English with a touch of Babson as far as I can tell :D Not an expert though - others will be able to be more precise.

Absolutely right - Arab side is almost entirely Crabbet/OE, with one Babson Egyptian line through The Shah (although actually The Shah, like many 'Egyptians' is about 20% Crabbet/OE)!

jazmineduke - the best place to look for Arabs (and people with info about them) is probably the Arabian Lines website.

As for 'the best Arabian breeding', that is really very much a matter of personal taste and opinion. I could tell you the bloodlines that are currently dominant in the in-hand show ring, for example, but fashions come and go, so probably best to look at as many quality Arabs as you can and decide what type you prefer and best suits your purposes.

(Going exclusively for black will severely limit your choice, of course.)

These are in-hand show champions, of mixed bloodlines - most of the top show horses nowadays are a mix of international lines, including Russian, English, Polish, Egyptian, Spanish, etc. These categories are becoming increasingly rather meaningless, as the top studs in most countries are blending lines rather than breeding, say, 'straight Polish' or 'straight Russian'.

There are still enthusiasts breeding 'straight' this, that and the other, but as I noted above, even a so-called 'straight Babson Egyptian' such as The Shah has 20% Crabbet/Old English blood, so the term is not always very helpful!

If I were you, I would avoid getting too bogged down in all this, and just take your time looking at a lot of Arabs, noting which ones you like best and researching their pedigrees. You may well find that you are consistently drawn to the same bloodlines, in which case, look for a horse with these lines...

(Please forgive me if you already know all this - I truly don't mean to sound patronising!)

your lad is stunning, i have been looking at a lot of arabs but would like something with some of my mares horses in his pedigree, I have now looked at black and grey, but i do prefer the black, i would go for a chestnut but would like a wider rang of foal colours, i know if i went for grey they would all be grey that is why i thought of black, my mares are warmbloods and are bay, black and chestnut, and all standing at 16.2HH-16.3HH thats why i would like one 15.2HH as that should give me a 16HH foal, I am trying to bred Eventers or Dressage. what size is you stallion?

Any Arab with some Crabbet/Old English lines will have many of your mare's ancestors in his pedigree (my boy has most of them!) so that gives you a pretty wide choice, especially if you are happy to consider chestnut as well as black.

I've just found your stud website and realised that I was right to be concerned about telling you stuff you already know - you've obviously been breeding for some time - sorry!

Nice that you are looking to add Arab blood into a sport-horse breeding programme - a smart move, IMO...;)

My boy is 15.2 - quite tall for an Arab, but they are being bred a bit bigger nowadays, so one around this size should not be too hard to find.

If you are set on a black stallion, imho the best I've seen is Arastin. Having handled him myself, and his dam, I can vouch for his temperament.

I think - could be wrong - that jazmineduke is looking to buy her own Arab colt/stallion, rather than just looking for one to breed to. Arastin would indeed be a splendid choice, but as far as I know is not for sale!
 
jazmineduke i know someone with a black Anglo arab colt foal for sale, 75arab/25Tb if you are interested pm me for her details. He is by Black arab Deemonstrator (top right in my signature,google his name), and his Dam is by Honeybrook Siren (Cruise Missile) x Isna - a straight egyptian mare, and will make at least 15.2hh.

He he - Tobago's not for sale either!

A shame - as either would be perfect: they both have the Russian (and Polish) bloodlines that give the big movement jazmineduke would need for sport-horse breeding...

I love Arastin's damline! Also have a big crush on Cullinghurst's Russian/Polish mare Prawica - fabulous mover...
 
Hi - you will struggle to get black breeding coupled with Crabbet bloodlines. In the UK, Crabbet horses are nearly all chestnut or grey. Some bay lines have just been re-introduced from Australia.

The other thing to remember is to research your colour genetics so that the colour doens't fade (ideally you want homozygous black).

We breed Old English/Crabbet lines and I'm a great fan of the bloodlines but I'm also very biased :) The particular Old English lines you had in your girl's pedigree are quite widely available and if you want to start researching pedigrees, you can also use allbreedspedigree.com - most Arab enthusiasts put their horses on there and you can get a wealth of information.

As well as looking at Arabian Lines web pages, also subscribe to the Arabian Magazine (you can google to get address and subscription details). Apart from being a good read, it is a wonderful, glossy full of superb pictures of our brilliant breed.

Main thing is to decide what you want to do with the horse - show or compete (and at what - some Arab bloodlines are well known for endurance and we specialise in jumping ability).

Thanks everyone for your help, still looking did see a lovely colt foal black which was advertised as purebred but when i looked more into him he was only 93.75% but very beautiful he was by ROE JALMOOD will keep looking but black or grey would be great, as i said i would be showing, driving and also he would be used on my own mares when old enough. I have a AA x SF mare at the moment and she has produced the most beautiful foals with a lovely head. But i have my heart set on a Arab not Anglo Arab.
