Just out of interest.

I think where we are we are pretty lucky.
Good riding and lots of equestrian centers near by for different events and competitions.

Id love to live in a more remote area but then i think what if i wanted to go show jumping? Id be so far from everything!

I suppose it depends what type of riding you do.

Would also be tempted by somewhere a little more remote, but I think that I would get bored with the long trips to shows though! We are in Ciren, which seems to be horsey central, the best hacking I think there can ever be (ciren park) with absolutly masses of show centres within an hour or two travelling. Only negatives though are that livery (with all our essentials!) is super pricey and our dream of owning our own house and land will never happen around here (unless that lottery win comes off!)

Scotland, it's partly why I moved here. Partly because there are lots of moors and forestry areas where you can ride, partly because we have a right of responsible access on pretty well any track. You do need to contend with forestry lorries and low flying jets and pheasants and deer jumping out but you dont have the really busy roads and aggressive people, and theres much more freedom in where you can ride. Because we live on a track, I can ride out either way from my house without going on a road first :-))

I would say Scotland, never kept horses there myself, but OH's parents and family live up there and I've nosed around a few equestrian places, it's beautiful and most importantly... so cheap! Well, compared to the south east, anyway...

north west or scotland!!

im moving in 2 years and i plan to go wherever the best place for owning a horse is!!!!

(i own one atm...) and want to move anyhow so figured id do that :D

Shropshire/welsh borders - glorious hacking on the Shropshire hills, good local hunts on either side of the border and xc fun rides nearly every weekend from Mar - Oct!

I said the South, not sure why but I just have this image in my head that it would be. I live in the North East and although there is lots of horses around I wouldn't call it a 'horsey' area. There is not many events, about 98% being unaffiliated and to go anywhere decent you need to travel pretty far.

S wales, good access to beaches and forestry, the downside is the show centres for anything affilated are a good hour or more travel away. Around me there are very good bridlepaths and excellent access to local mountain for fab gallops and views when you get to the top.

Not Powys - Mid Wales. I cant find a safe bloomin yard/field for my horse at the mo :@ but other than that we have some great hacking with stunning views :D

I wanted to say The Midlands but not sure which option in the poll to select for that. The middle of the country is good and central for getting to events, selling and buying stuff. It would be my choice.

I live in Devon but dispite the rolling fields, decently equiped yards are few and far between. I grew up in Middlesex (Northwood/Hillingdon) and there were loads of horses kept in those areas. Surprising, considering it's such a built up area.

I may be biased but Leicestershire/Rutland. Absolutely beautiful off road hacking, lovely country villages and the best part is you can live somewhere remote but still be nearby local Equestrian Centres for competing. Also, the hunting around here is spectacular! :)

Yeah, when it comes to but an equestrian home, it seems Scotland or north wales is the cheapest!
