What is the best breed, and do you own your favourite?

I like the horse for itself. One of the most honest horses for jumping was a Arab/Welsh x AA. The horse who meant much to me was a TB. I like the ID & CB crossed with the TB, but I also admire the QH & Hanoverian. I dont think I can say what my favourite breed is but I like something with substance, & something that looks whole (or a balance look to them) ie there are a lot of horses that have a nice front but no back end. Or have depth but spindle's for legs.

I love welshies, look at my collection

another welsh c, rising 4 now, broken and turned away.

Heavies - it has to be the clydesdale - there is something about them that makes them stand out.

For me personally, after years of TBs, I now am addicted to the gypsy cob - tonnes of hair, personality, fun and a true all rounder.

Lucky for us we have one of each.

Highland ponies and their part breds . All purpose , all terrain, hardy, easy -care, suitable for numpties and grans but super ones compete prelim dressage and part breds have been round Badminton ! Can harrow your field, stand all day in harness and show of in the hunting field !
Yes I own lots and love the partbreds too !

I really like Quarter Horses. They are so sensible and amenable to anything you ask of them. Yes I am lucky enough to have a few QH's. I also like Paints.....most of which are really just coloured QH's....and yes once again I own a few of these.

I never used to like Appaloosa's....however since owning a couple I have to say they have really grown on me and I would say they are now up there in my list of favourite breeds.

My all-time favourite "other side of the Pond" equine has to be Connemara. They are such great little ponies and when crossed with TB generally make the most fabulous jumping horses. I have one little crossbred Connemara and I have had quite a few Connemara x TB's....all lovely horses.

I have had WB's, but they don't really do it for me I'm afraid, although I do understand why others enjoy them.

I love the heavies nowadays. Owned an Arab for 19 years when I was younger. Also love Icelandic horses and coloured cobs. Surprisingly enough I have 2 heavy horses, 1 Icelandic and 1 coloured cob!

Oo a very hard one indeed.
I have had a fell before and since I had him I have fallen in love with the breed and would happily have one again.
I currently have a registred show pony and would say a welsh x arab, he is fantastic and would not turn another welsh x down again (love welshies, part or full).
But I do love warmbloods aswell.

I would have always said ID because I thought I really wanted one when I last went horse shopping - but then I found Sid who's halfID half TB so officially an ISH .....I love lots of other types to look & and ooo and aahhhh over but for me to ride & enjoy ISH now all the way!

IDxTB is my favorate and I bought one last April, I had a picture in my head for years of my perfect horse and the first one I looked at fitted that picture pefectly, hes the best

I love welshies too! And I have a section C (my favourites!). However, I sometimes wish I could make her a bit taller for riding as I ride quite long but then shrink her back afterwards!

As for other breeds I love watching warmbloods doing dressage but don't think I'd ever have one...

I love TBs. I own a TB (an exracehorse) and he is very easy to get on with. I had a Welsh Part-bred (50% welsh, 50% TB)on loan for a year and she was the most amazing horse to ride and look after.
Overall, I have a big soft spot for thoroughbreds, particularly exracehorses!

I have and love t.b's and arabs. Partly because I am serverly allergic to horses and they have less coat, so I can just about survive when they are moulting.

The other reason is, I have ridden no other breeds and so have nothing to compare with.

I love Trakehners, but I know I couldn't handle one so wouldn't buy one. I also love Shire X TBs or Clyde X TBs, and ended up buying an ID X TB who I thought was the bees knees as soon as her then owner took her rug off when I went to see her. Exactly my type, nice and chunky but not too huge!
I used to own a Welsh Cob and wouldn't buy another one, and also a New Forest... actually the NF put me off ponies in general, she was a total nightmare!

Arabs and yes I do have one, have had them now for about 20 years. I can't put my finger on what exactly it is about them that I enjoy so much.

I dont have a specific breed favourite. I always wanted a Welsh D and have one who I love to pieces for his in-your-face character. But I also love Luso's which again I have, love him to pieces too, he really is a superstar and I would definately buy another. Never thought Id like Arabs and I ended up with 2 part breds at one point, both were so highly intelligent that I like them too! Wouldnt want a pure breed but I do love their clever side and appreciate them now.

Dont like Warmbloods! Had one, wouldnt ever have another.

Anything irisrh bred so has to be the connemara and irish draught, the connemaras are so scopey and talented and have amazing temperments and are just such great all rounders especially when you get a good one!! I have a 2 year old at the moment and have high hopes for him!! The irish draughts are a bit like big connemaras, they also have the wonderful temperment and athletic ability and they just try so hard for you, I hav'nt got a pure ID but my mare who is 1/2 TB, 1/4 ID and 1/4 conn is in foal to an amazing ID and my other 2 horses are also part ID, so are ISH. The ISH are great but it depends what type, it used to be as ISH was a IDxTB but now they're calling ID x warmbloods irish sport horses aswell so there is quite alot of variety in the breed.
