Depends on the height you want.
Overheight Connie's are not something I'd touch, the ones I've know have all had issues, I personally think they've been bred for height & basically conformation has been ignored & their bodies aren't coping.
14.2 & under then connies are fab 🙂

Well I have a 20 year old over height purebred Connie who has had a very successful show jumping, eventing, dressage and showing career, he has been a horse of a lifetime. He is still fit and sound enjoying regular hacking and a bit of cross country.
Also have a beautiful Connie X Tb who is slightly taller and finer but definitely believes he is a Connie. He is a fabulous jumper, basically jumps anything you point him vaguely at but does it all in a snaffle and cavasson noseband.
I have various friends with other fab pure Connies. I also know a lovely Connie X warmblood.

Completely agree with lamehorses, depends what size you want! If you are happy with a 14.2ish then a Connie and if you want bigger get a cross. Other option at that height is a Welsh D, I love them but they aren't for everyone! I do think Connies are more straightforward usually (obviously depends on the individual horse!)

I have what is believed to be an ID X Connie. The ID part is certain, the Connie part is assumed by appearance.

Well, I like him!
Same my horse is by a popular ID stallion the passport says the dam ISH ( which I think is incorrect as dam was born in 1992 and is missing massive amount breeding in her passport ) my horse is only 15.2 and looks very much Connemara cross .

I’d prefer a pure Connie or other native x TB than an ID x Con as I know one and her head is enormous ID head and very coarse, which looks off on a fine pony body she does look a bit silly! Although is the sweetest person and she tries she isn’t massively talented either!

I have a 16.1hh Connemara. Both of his parents are recorded as being of normal heights for the breed standard, as are all four of his grandparents and several generations before them. He's just a genetic throwback to the assorted Thoroughbreds, Irish Draughts, and Welsh Cobs who make up his much more distant ancestry.

I like a traditional stamp of a connie so I would say purebred but then I’m 5ft2 so can get away with my 14.1 connie. If you’re taller then I’d go cross.

Depends on how big you are and if you like a big horse or a little horse or a hot pon or cooler temprament… I’d choose the horse rather than the breeding but although a lot love them I’ve not had a lot of luck with Irish breeding … lots love them though

I worked with 2 Connie geldings both 15hh, both a bit quirky but ridden and competed by a competent 10 +Yr old, competed to BE novice eventing, really nice well mannered horses especially the first one and both honest hard workers who lived their job, they show jumped and competed dressage, hacked alone, both great in traffic.
Both had hefty price tags even 5 and 10yrs ago.
