I have worn a stock for years, but sort of 'made up' the way I tie it. I was never shown how to tie it properly and I think it is about time I started doing it correctly!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

just buy a self-tied... so much easier!!!!!

the piece of cardboard that comes in the pack with new stocks has diagrams. i can do it, but i don't think i can describe it.
a ready-tied one looks rubbish, in my opinion.
as long as there's a decent knot in the middle, and you sort out the sides to be equal, and put the stock pin in properly, it shoul look fine.
okay, i'll try to describe how i do it.... right over left, pull tight. left over right, but sort of with a twist in the right bit for bulk, pull tight, then flatten out and shape knot. pull corners of spare bits up to points, cross ends over your chest, arranging them so that the top bit that shows at your jacket's neck looks good. put your stock-pin in. use small safety pins to secure spare ends to your shirt over your chest.
hope that makes sense. now loads of people are going to tell me i'm doing it wrong, but lots of people have asked me to show them how i do it, cos it looks good!

That's ace! Personally I've never been able to understand the diagrams that come with the stocks and have never ever done it like that-oops!

Thanks for those replies - they are really helpful.

Why do some people have them straght down rather than crossed like in the diagrams? How do you tie the ones that go straight down?

I wear mine straight down only cos I feel that it smothers me if I wear it properly, I end up looking as if I am all stock
