What is the deal with hat safety standards?

What are the current regulations for riding hats? I know one of the safety standards is being revoked this year but tbh I never look at what is marked on riding hats. I just go off what fits well and the price.

However, I do get out and about to a show/dressage every so often (although not much, mostly a happy hacker with the odd lesson/schooling sesh) but I've released I should probably get a new hat seeing as i've had a couple of falls wearing my current one. I've never fallen on my head but I know I shouldn't take the risk.

Currently have a CO Young Rider Skull.

Am I able to get one now that I can use at comps in the future or am I best waiting a bit longer?

I would personally wait for a big hat buy but considering you have fallen in yours a few times i would be look at buying a new in between time hat - maybe just a bog standard skull cap or caldane or something. Any new hat will be safer than one that has had a few falls.

I came off my horse bareback in the sand once and someone asked was my head ok and i said yeah i didnt hit it, and they said umm yeah you did, quite a lot. Look at my hat and a big sand patch is on it. If you fall, you can't trust your own judgement sometimes.

It is one of those instances when I know I probably should have already but funds always end up going on something else.

I quite fancy myself a gatehouse hs1 hat just wasn't sure whether to buy now or wait. I was hoping to do the latter, but OH told me off when I admitted i'd had a couple of falls in my current one.
