What is the difference between a foal slip & a headcollar

Just wondering what the difference is really. I need to buy BabyHorse a head collar, but wondering what the difference is to a slip and whether it is better.

Foal slip is a different shape and has a small handle attached permantly

foal slip fits completely differently, i actually think they're safer than head collars on them up to a certain age.

and the dangly thing, of course- means u can safely get hold of them all the time lol

I personally don't like foal slips at all but that's just me; I also object to them growing out of them so quickly so you need to buy a foal headcollar anyway, so I use headcollars right from the start.
A foal slip is more like a figure of eight with the straps crossing over at the throat and the way it's made, if you look at it fastened up (not on the foal) you will see that the headpiece is usually laying at an angle facing forward so only one edge of the headpiece goes against the foal, it doesn't lay flat (behind the ears) which could dig in if the leather hasn't been treated well enough; the head strap on a headcollar automatically lays flat against the head. A headcollar is able to be fitted better (adjustments on nose, throat and head on good ones) also gives better control than a foal slip and looks more professional unless it is a very small breed of course which are hard to fit in headcollars unless you have them made especially.
As long as they are both perfectly fitted, then it is personal preference which you use.

I don't use foal slips for the same reasons as Maesfen. If you need a catch strap that's easily enough done for yourself anyway.
