I am currently looking for a trailor I will only ever be towing 1 horse but I do not really want a single trailor... I am trying to get a trailor which is really leight so i do not go over the 3.5tonne rule after lots of research i have worked out the if weight of my car horse and trailor can reach below 3.5tonne i do not have to take my trailor test..

MY HORSE IS 17HH BUT SLIGHT BUILD PLEASE ANY ADVICE ON THE LIGHEST TRAILOR WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL.....

Thanks Sam

Your problem is that your horse is 17hh. It means you have to go for the larger model trailers which will be heavier as they are meant to carry bigger horses. I don't think any of the single one's are meant for anything over 16.2.

I also think if there was a loophole to allow you to tow a horse without taking the trailer test, other people would have found it. Why is it such a problem to do the test ?

The test is £500 for 2 days training ... £115 pounds for test ... 50% pass rate and is a full hgv test but with a trailor this is what puts me off ...

Mines 17hh and I've got a cheval lib' xxl 1000 it's a mare and foal trailer which hass been fantastic, they weigh 700kg and I've had mine downplated to mam of 1500kg which with my 3 series BMW can tow legally on a b licence. :)

The best bit about it being a mare and foal trailer is that you have more room to tack up etc as a double with a partition is tight!

Bateson derby used to weigh 610kg, might be heavier these days. Might be a squash for a 17h unless fairly narrow and not requiring a huge amount of head room!

I did the test last month cost me £300 all in and was not bad at all!! the problem is whatever trailer you have, even the lightest weight, has a maximum weight capacity which is the figure that matters.
ie you will not be able to tow a 2 horse trailer with one horse in without the B+E licence, unless you get the trailer downplated!! IMO easier to take the test!
