Just wondering what the average is!!

If it is your home it is somewhat different - just trying to see what the average livery length is :D

About 15 years at my 1st yard, private 2 box yard (diy) only me apart from about 1 year in the middle when they had another livery there.
then about 7 1/2 years at second yard, small private 4/5 box yard (diy), 1other owner there for last 5 years (she had between 2 and 3 horses at a time) and a couple of others who came and went during my time there!

I've been at my yard for 11 years - it's the only livery yard we've been on, 1 of the liveries has been there longer (not sure how long tho).

We are moving soon, but thats because the whole yard is relocating so it doesn't count. :D

weve never really stay put for long it seems for various reasons! :( but i hope we will now..

Prepare for lots of yard hopping (unfortunatley)

1st yard we literally just had a feild - were there with the horses for 5 years (reason for moving - our old chap was pts, our 4yo was ready to be sold [as we'd intended all along] and we didnt want to have one on its own because she was only a 3yo and loved mums old boy who was pts, so she went back to my god mother who owned her)

We then didnt have horses for a few months.

Brought Rocky and moved to yard 2 which was just stable + field. 8 months later, a place came up on my instructors yard which had really good facillities so we moved him there.

Were there for about a year, but she then got REALLY funny with us and was uneccissarily rude, so we left (turns out they were having money probs so she was having to sell the yard). Moved to a yard about half a mile up the road from there.

We were at that yard for about a year and a half (wish we had never have moved because the next yard was a v bad decision!) It had a fab school, fab hacking, and only 6 people there. Anyway, i got another horse, but there wasnt any space so we had to move. :(

This yard seemed great to begin with, but after about 2 months of us being there, the (new) stables kept falling to peices, the school they did them self, so the surface got so deep we couldnt use it, and hacking was crap so we sold the other horse we got (turned out to be a bit of a nut job!) and put rocky with a SJer for a few months.

Found a LOVELY yard, but they only did part livery... we thought as wed had 2, one horse part livery would probably be okay oney wise. But after 5 months, we realised it was wayyy too much so had to move :( (still go back for lessons and are v good friends) :)

Now we are at an amazing yard and have been for about 6 months, and hope to never have to leave! Hacking is AMAZING, have gallops, walker being built, tiny school with lights (rarely ride in it but good for lunging) lovely school to hire just down the road for £5/hour, and THE most amazing people :) I also work for YOs brother riding out pointers at weekends and during school hols, so everythings perfect and i hope that never changes! :)

sorry for the essay!

My average is two years on a yard due to moving house etc (and was at uni!), have been at my current yard for nearly two years and won't be moving any time soon. I think our longest inmate has been here 10 years.

I have been here the longest:) - 10 years in January and 6 months after it opened - there are a couple of new people this year (extra field became available) otherwise the 'newest' livery here was 2 years ago!:) We are always full - vacancies come about because the horse goes - sometimes sadly PTS or more usually they are leaving the area. Most liveries stay here and change their horses!!:D

I was at the same yard for about 5 years, then I moved away but I came back and took my new horse to the same yard again. There were still people there from the first time!
I stayed for another few years and moved again, but the same people stayed. They only moved because the yard shut down, but most of them went to the same place!

first yard and first loan pony were at a riding school i worked at - my pony died after 2years though i had been there for 3 years before riding mounted games ponies and then after he died i worked there for another 2 years.

I got my first horse on loan a few years after that and the yard i kept him at was the woman i loaned him froms place, i was there for around 3 years then i got my own flat and it was a bit far travel wise so she let me move him to a yard closer to me, unfortunately after 8 months he was diagnosed with DJD and i went horse shopping at doncaster blood stock sales and bought a 6yo chesnut mare! we stayed at that yard, small DIY 10 boxes but only 6 horses, my two (loan horse stayed with me as his owner had sold her place as her grandaughter had given up) and another woman and her daughter with 4 ponies. Another 9 months later the other lady brought her friend in and they literally bullied me off! My loan horse had came sound and went to a friend to be a happy hacker. so a total of 17 months there.

We moved around the corner to another assisted DIY yard and it was great lovely hacking and school and we only left there as i had moved in with OH and had to stay near my step sons school as we have him 5 days a week and i found the travelling too much. SO we moved to a yard that looked lovely on their website but the owner turned out more bonkers than i could take so only lasted 4 months there and moved to a yard only 1 mile from our house but it had no winter turnout but had indoor and outdoor schools and horse walker so figured we would manage as i struggled to keep her shoes on when she went out in the winter. Very tragically i lost my mare at that yard in an accident in the arena whe she landed after a jump on a 6 inch fence post nail and perforated her DDFT and coffin joint and she had to be PTS :( we were only at that yard 2 months.

I bought the new boy a few months after my mare was PTS. I originally went back to the yard i was at but when he sustained a horrible deep cut to his back leg and the girls in the yard found more nails in the school and yard owner didnt want to do anything about it we moved to a lovely perfect yard which is a whopping 40 mile round trip but im hoping its worth it!

another essay!

We have been on our current yard for almost 5 years. The longest is about 20 years. There is a waiting list for our yard but places don't come up very often. (Usually unfortunately through PTS).
Previous yard (very small 8 horses) was 2 years but we left after YO didn't have any food for the horses delivered and they went without (for about 24 hours - she kept saying the delivery was on its way) till me and another livery went an bought hay and hard feed and feed all the horses including hers. Then got a real mouthful for daring to feed my own horses and given 6 hours to leave! Needless to say took the food with me! Turns out she hadn't been paying the suppliers.
Current yard is fantastic and my mare was bred by the owner.

I've owned horses for 12 years.
I spent 11 years of that at one yard and only left because they had to stop doing liveries - I was devestated when we left:(
My mum had previously been at the same yard for years before having a break from horses when me and my brother were young.

Gosh, this makes me feel old but about 21 years in total. Was there for about 15 years, then moved to another yard for about 2 years then moved back to old yard and have been there ever since! That was probably about 6 years ago. We left the original yard on good terms and they were happy to have us back. No plans on going anywhere else anytime soon!

We have 2 women at our yard and both been there over 20 years with their horses. I like yards where there are longstanding inmates! I've been there for 6 and a half years.

I've been at my yard 16 years :) started with a loan horse from another livery and since then have varied from one to my present 5 horses! Only me there, rent the yard, arena and field from farmer. I will be moving next spring, but only 3 of them as we are in the process of buying a house where we are putting stables up, funnily enough only 100yrds from current yard!

2 years not including the time I was at uni (been on 4 other yards in that time!!). Im the newest person on the yard (really lovely yard so no one leaves!) and i think the oldest has been there literally 20+ yrs :)

12 years on my yard, previous yards, about 4 years each. However now looking for a
little yard just for me! Dont know if I will actually be able to make the break, sometimes its very hard to change even if you are not 100% happy, nowhere will be perfect.

Me, I've been at this yard for 30 years exactly the number of years we have lived in this village. If all goes to plan we will - everything being crossed, be moving house with its own stables bit late in the day I know but if the Man up there is in a good mood.....:D

Been on the same yard for 8-9 years now, first livery yard I've ever been on since moving them from land we privatly rented, had our own stables at home as well.

Was very strange though moving on to a livery yard despite it only being a quiet small yard, many people have come and gone over the years but there's a few that have been there as long as me.

I do enjoy being on a livery yard, I like the social side and it feels safer knowing someone is knocking about.

Although alot of the times I don't hardly see anyone at all, best of both.
