Only vaguely related, but when did riding hats become so expensive?!
Both my hats must be nearing 10 years old but I can't really afford to replace them now  will just have to not fall off!

60-80 quid for the cheaper end? I'm not sure if they were ever that much cheaper? Maybe 30-50 quid, ten years or so ago. 80 pounds over 3 years is about 27 pounds a year (50p a week in a piggy bank!). Yes there's some that are ridiculous money but you can still get safety at an affordable price.

I remember paying £100 for my showing hat 10 years ago, the equivalent hat from the same manufacteurers now has an RRP of £255... I've no doubt there'll be some alterations to make it meet higher standards, but still seems a bit mad.

Obviously it is your head and your money but I think I would get a less expensive hat for every day riding at this point, if I were you, even if you can't afford to replace like for like for shows. £255 is pricey to me, I agree there. But I don't show so it just doesn't matter to me what it looks like!

Not meaning to be snarky or grumpy though, please read in an understanding tone... I understand the struggle of everything just seeming so bliddy expensive (I've needed new riding gloves for at least a year right now and my hat is also somewhat overdue replacement)! Just.... it is your head!

I have found KEP to be the comfiest helmet yet. They are also super lightweight!

I have a round head and even the Charles Owen round fit is not round enough for me, also gives me a splitting headache.

For XC I stick with a Gatehouse HS1.
