With warmblood owners?

As in, why Do people seem to have a pre-formed opinion of you if you choose to have a big and shiny warm blooded horse?
ooo.gif

Some of my best friends have warmbloods..I don't but then I am not showjumping or doing dressage at a level where I require that amount of movement in a horse so I choose to keep natives/native crosses because they are lower maintainance.

Doesn't stop me teasing my friends though.,.and likewise they are happy to refer to mine as pit ponies..all in fun.

I think if you feel really strongly about supporting British breeds you (one) might have a point in objecting to the vast number of warmbloods in the highest level of competition..but the reality is that they are readily available, quite easy to train, and have expressive movement, and it would be difficult to compete internationally with anything too different.

If I ever wanted to breed form my Dales x mare I would want a warmblood stallion (a small one)..she is not purebred so nothing is lost..conversely the Highland mare is well bred and I would never want to dilute that with another breed

What is that opinion then?!! I never make pre-formed opinions about anyone or anything!!
Is it a similar to the way people make pre-formed opinions of those of us with coloured cobs!? If so, then it's just b******s!!

LOL!

I doubt you are the sort of person who makes negative and snide comments about WB's though

Fair enough not to like something...everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think the OP was referring to those who don't have them and who are outwardly hostile towards the type and those with them
smile.gif

A warmblood is any horse that isn't a TB, Arab or a carthorse/Cob. Its a cross between a Hot Blood (TB/Arab) and a Cold Blood (Draught) hence warm. So most people actually own warmbloods.

Ha ok, im not the type to make snide remarks about horses i get on with it, i dont see why people take so much time and effort to call peoples horses and things like that, if you want a wb fair enough im not going to make a snide remark about it, they are horses each to their own. It like people look down their noses at coloureds cobs but i had one and she was fantastic in every thing she did.

Oopsie rambled on bit then and forgot what the point was i was trying to make oh well

I suppose most human beings like to stereo type sometimes even if they don't admit it.

Personally, I thought that alot of them are ugly but then I've seen pics on here of some lovley ones that have changed my mind.

Can't beat a TB (cough cough) in my opinion.

Something I do get the hump with is people that send their horses away to be professionally schooled and then tell you that your horse is 'taking the pee' out of you etc etc when you have a few problems. The fact that they've never had to overcome problems with their horse or indeed trained their own horse is conveniently forgotten by them. I've only encountered this with warmblood owners so I suppose they're giving you a bad name!

God, what a ramble!

Not really bollox, you, like me and many others, just love horses!! However, there are many others who HATE cobs or TB's or WB's etc....

Same here catherineskinner! I havent got a problem with wb owners, or Wb! I just personally wouldnt have one as my first choice. I have got a problem with clueless people over horsing themselves, because it is the in fashion to buy so and so breed.

technically right of course, but I think the common perception is some enormous dutch beastie or similar..I can see that if I advertised my Dales xTB or IDxTB as warmbloods there would be a lot of disappointed people!

Is it possible to overhorse yourself with a warmblood? I know they are big but I haven't met one yet that is more of a handful than a TB for example

LOL!

And here's another stereotypical assumption....that all WB's are big
crazy.gif

We have a 15.2hh WB on our yard that is the slightest little thing you could imagine.

Of my two, neither would I classify as particularly big. Bo is 16.3hh but probably about 5/8th's to 3/4's TB. Trikey is 16.1hh but built more solidly.

To me, a BIG WB would be P_G's Archie or something like that

Scrooge, I have to say when I look at your signature and avatar I see a coloured warmblood.

Nah, wasnt being specific to Wb, just numb nut people ingeneral!! LoL!! Yes I have come across some Wb that have over horsed people, but have Tbs aswell! As I said, no probs with WB owners in general, unfortunately, they seem to be the "in fashion" horses at the mo, that attract people who want a fashion statement
smirk.gif
Would say exactly the same regardless of breed of horse

WB's arent always big, my 13.1h is going to a 14.2 WB pony stallion :P

As we are breeding to a type rather than breed, he is that type, as yet I havent found a British bred stallion that would complement her, although if I could I would love to use in

Think I will start a campaign to get all non pure breds classed as mongrels.
That should relieve all this sillyness as then we would pretty much all own one.
Warmblood = mongrel
TB = mongrel
ISH = mongrel
Anglo arab = Mongrel
and a whole host more

But then I suppose peeps would just start up with......
'Well I have a dutch mongrel'
