Was thinking today about the tallest horse I have ridden.
Mine is a TB that was measured at 18hh with racing plates on.
He is owned (though is for sale

) by a person in my village and was on livery with us over the winter. Even though he was so tall, he was so light in the hand and so easy to ride. Tacking him up wasn't easy for 5'7 me though.

18.2hh...

He was at Hartpury College when I was there (has since been PTS I believe). He was such a gentle giant, although I did have one highly embarrassing moment when I had to ask a further education student to help me get his bridle on as he had his head in the air (big no-no as I was a higher education (degree) student and we had a bit of a thing against the FEs!!

He was the reason I passed my riding module as I am a huge wuss at jumping but he made the 3' fences seem like poles on the ground due to his size!

RIP Beau!

18'3" Shire called Herbie. He was 6yo, showed him and did VERY well (ok nearly squished half the comp but never mind!) he died at 7 1/2 from ring bone meaning he had to be PTS

17.3 7/8th TB when I was about 10, so not really riding. I 'rode', properly ridden a 17HH shire, and 17HH hanoverian, although I wasn't great they were very sweet!

18hh chestnut Irish horse named Patrick. Jumped over 5 feet with his owner in a charity puissance - came into the fence at a lollop, then ballooned over it! Since gone to work for the Manchester Metropolitan Police.

17.3 hannovarian called aaron. Was a dressage horse in his day but then a true schoolmaster, i.e. an older horse who you spent most of the time going sideways on for the first 6 months as if you didn't press the buttons right he'd go with his best guess! lol I just remember learning medium trot on him and he ate up the long diagonal in 3 strides! Surfice it to say I had overdone the aids and got an extended trot apparently worthy of a 9 if he didn't nearly fall over in the corner because I was still going wow!

Doubt he's still with us tbh... shame, was a sweetie

A couple of racehorses when I was a stable lass which must have been 17.2 or 17.3. One was called Man On The Run and a couple of years after I did him as one of my three, he became favourite for the Grand National (although he never actually ran). The other was a 5 year old entire racehorse in Belguim. I'm 5 feet 1 and the trainers seemed to think it funny to give me them to do, though they were actually both really quiet well mannered rides. Strangely they were both light chestnuts with flaxen mane and tails, very unusual for TBs.
