17.2, I think: my first riding teacher's 4yo dressage prospect, when I was 13. The tallest horses I currently sit on are 17 or 17.1.

18.3 when barefoot shire x id. He didn't feel too high until it came to getting off, when the owner offered to catch me to stop me going splat on the floor

Our shire horse Ollie (died, sadly, now probably causing havoc in heaven) he was 19.2 with shoes on. I used to have to stand on a chair to get on him, and even then it was a struggle, and getting off meant sort of abseiling down the stirrup leather.

There was a horse at my old yard that was 18.2hh. I rode him a few times and he was lovely. Shortly after I left he had to be PTS because they found out he had growth problems and there could be a chance he wouldnt stop growing.

The biggest horse I rode was at Talland - if I remember correctly he was 17.3 and called 'Big Olly', and someone told me he had been round Burghley in his younger days!

Don't know exactly how big, but def pushing on the 18hh plus side! Went to a uni riding club lesson, was told I would be riding 'x' horse (can't remember his name) and was told I might want spurs. Went round the corner and could see this giant standing in the stable. Was praying that he was standing on a massive deep litter bed but no, was on the concrete

. Clearly hadn't been sat on for days and was a spooky twat, which is delightful when you're about ten foot in the air anyway! Had a bit of a battle with it (and won) but suffice to say never went back to uni RC - was clearly being 'tested out' and I've never met such cliquey folk in all my life

. We've also got a P2Per on the yard who's probably about 17.2hh - he absolutely devours the ground!
