Just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone had any funny spooking stories. I was out hacking the other day and C spooked at a porn mag! He jumped about a foot - mind you it was Readers Wives and the boobies were pretty saggy! I nearly fell off laughing!

Rofl, saggy boobs is enough to make any man spook!

My mare didnt know which way to spook when a coke can was rolling down the hill towards us - it followed us to the left then to the right so we jumped it!

poppy spooks at anything dead! if we pass any roadkill she goes nuts! not quite as good as a porn mag but still interesting

LOL at the porn mag!

Beau will go up to tractors and lick them, walk past anything, doesnt bat an eyelid at pheasants flying out, the only thing he has ever spooked at, is blowing branches waving at him.

Lance will go past scary flashing skips, lorries etc, but a noise in the hedge is terrifying!

My 3 yr old made me laugh last night. My cob had rolled and his fly mask had come off and was lying in the field, but the ears were sticking straight up. She was snorting at it and her legs were trembling - very scary !!

Daffodils!!! She can't stand them! Primroses, pansies, lillies all fine, but daffodils send her potty!

The mare has taste I say

My horse was scared to death when I went to catch him in the rain, a while ago. I was wearing a big red jacket with the hood up - he normally comes to call but I couldn't get near him til I took my coat off!

I had an Arab that spooked one day at something that was no longer there! There was a house near the yard had always had a row of old tyres along the grass verge outside to stop people driving onto/parking on the verge. We were out for a hack one day when he started snorting and being silly but I couldn't see why until I realised that all the tyres had been removed!!! Dopey animal . . . .

My mare hated the donkey at the end of the road, she's usually very quiet and non spooky but this little donkey, well we were sideways and everything! dippy mare, she used to live in a field next to one! Even now that the donkey has gone, she still has to have a very good look!!

I took Misty out for the first time in a few weeks last week (she gets lunged by her owner rest of time) and she spooked at her shadow! She was just trying it on though!

Lol at some of these stories they made me chuckle as horses do the strangest things.
Mine usually spook at the usual things like strange noises from things they can't see that well.
Dougal once nearly jumped into his own skin as he caught sight of some cows in some bushes one day on the way to the bridle track. Silly horse as he should be used to cows as there were plenty at the place he came from lol.
Mcfly spooked at two calves the other day that came running up to a gate as we were leading him past. I think he thought what's that lol.
Also on Monday we went past a house which had tall hedges and there was a girl jumping up and down in a trampoline ( the sort with the mesh around it). He saw her and tried to get over on the opposite side of the road. Funny thing was on the way back, no girl jumping but he still looked at the same garden lol.
Both spook at strange items on the yard and will snort if something appears like a pile of bricks etc.
Both of them spooked at a big horsebox that was parked outside a house on the way back to the yard. Mcfly wasn't too bad but Doug who was in front caught sight of the ramp down and tried to take off with Nat clinging onto his rope lol.
I can't really think of any more at the moment though I know there have been other times they have made me laugh but I just can't remember.

He spooked at a car that was parked on a bridleway and was slightly steamed up shall we say, mind you so did the people in it when they looked up and saw us riding past!!

A friend of mine frightened the life out of her horse by letting one rip (and we all know they do reverberate off the saddle somewhat) when out hacking alone. He spooked and she fell off! Oh, how we laughed.

rofl oh god thats made me laugh so much!!!

i used to ride a pony that was scared stiff of milk floats, i remember being on a hack and all you would hear was that whining "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" that they make and that was it, she'd bugger off!

Oh my god! this lot is so funny!! I have been sniggering madly to myself at work!! My friend (J) went out on a hack having only ridden twice before and The Pig spooked at a Chinese man with an umbrella! my other friend (K) he was riding with tried to ask this chap to put it out of sight but he didn't speak any english and so The Pig shot off down a random path whilst K was wetting herself at J bouncing around. They eventually got control but K then fell off as she was so busy laughing her horse stumbled and she went straight over his neck!

A Muslim flapping his prayer-mat out at the side of his car on a car park by the beach.

My horse is terrified of black Shetlands and every other large animal that's not a horse, sheep or cow.

One youngster I had was very alarmed at an unusual fleece hat I have.

Charlie likes to spook at his own shadow. Went out hacking on our own few weeks ago. He put in a big spook, only thing to spook at was his own shadow. Did a good leap sideways, I just sat and laughed at him. Also like to spook at roadwork signs on the ground

Motorised golf bags - the ones that just trundle along all by themself looking very innocent on the golf course with the owner strolling along behind it.
