What is this bit?

This is the bit currently used on my share horse. He's goes well in it, has good breaks, often licks and chews, softens to it. But I'm a bit novice and don't know what it is other than looking similar to a french link..

I thought that might be the case, it's not normal bit coloured. I thought the centre might be copper too as it's got a bronzey colour to it.
