Sorry if this is a really dumb question but is there a particular name for this type of colour?
Black mane - grey body. Or is it just still called a Grey? I just find it so stunning.

Thankyou for the replies!
Awh, well both of those pictures are of two youngsters - shame the black doesn't stay its such a nice contrast.

lol of course- i looked at the colour and the head on the second pic, not the top one lol!!

that would explain why i thought the top one looked like a dapple grey, and the head shot looked rose grey- duh!!!

gonna go *attempt* to wake myself up and bang my head on the desk lol

My girl is this colour at the moment (she's 5) and i'm gutted she won't stay like it! A few people have called her a "Scott's grey" because of the famous painting. I just refer to her as "grey" though, she has brown ears, black legs, a black mane, a two tone tail - black at the top and white at the bottom, a white face with dark rings round her eyes and muzzle and a dappled body. I wish I could get round to sorting out a photobucket account!

She sounds gorgeous Suzi.
I love it when they have black legs also!! awhh why can't they stay like it hmf ):!!

at the moment the shade (from what i can make out) is rose grey

Rose grey is when a genetially chestnut horse greys out. When it looks pink or sort of a strawberry roan (which it isn't as it doesn't have the roan gene). I hope that makes sense, I'm feeling quite tied and so the brain is slow today. ;)

^ Rose grey.

God knows what you call a bright bay that is greying out, or even if there's a special name for it?

I would guess that the two horses in the OP were born bay, hence the black manes and tails. :)
