I bought a bag of horsey bits which someone had kindly donated to charity.

There were lots of useful bits and bobs but also 2 identical pieces of tack which I cannot identify!

I initially thought they were nosebands but cannot find anything similar after trawling the net so am hoping someone here on HHO can help me identify them!

The "headpiece" is def full size but the hinged metal "nose" part is tiny and only measures approx 10cm between the 2 upright pieces of leather

I can't quite make it out from the pictures but from the "headpiece" could you attach a bit or would it be likely that the "nose" attachments would fit onto the bit rings?

It does look like some kind of noseband. I use a kineton and it looks like half of one if that makes sense, kind of!!!

BumbleLion that was my thought- it's looks like a cross between a Kineton and a drop?

To me It looks like the headpiece bit should go in front of a bit, and the straps go underneath it?

I could be completely wrong though!!!

Oh dear - you've got me Googling now!

I too was thinking along the lines of a primitive or foreign type kineton and now I am wondering if its some sort of bitless bridle attachment?

We need someone clued up on Spanish or Western riding possibly.

It is very strange isn't it.

To complicate things as I said I have 2 of these which are identical if someone could make a "something" out of the two together!

I use a Worcester noseband on my mare and this would fit to the bit rings the same but the metal hinge would be low like a drop (and it has a hinge in the middle).

I will have to pop it on her bridle tomorrow and take a picture if we are all still guessing

Gah! just go back to the Charity shop, ask who dropped it all off, if they are local you are bound to know them and go and ask them!!! Put us all out of our misery ;) LOL :D

I really don't know - thank you everyone for the suggestions and research!

I have looked up Jaquima but these seem much more substantial than what I have - unless of course what I have is just a bit of one!

I put it on my mare this am like a noseband and the sides of the headpieces were really close to her eyes, unfortunately camera batteries were dead so I couldn't take a picture but will do tonight.
