When I was having a cuddle with Ethel whilst she was flat out in the field I noticed she had a kind of burn on her lip. Here's a pic ..

I remember someone posting the same a while ago but can't remember what the replies were.

It looks like she's cut it on something then either rubbed it or flies have got to it. Put a dab of would cream on it and it'll heal in no time :)

My lad has one too in exactly the same place. No buttercups in his field though! Someone suggested it could be a fungus or parasite of some kind?? I am going to worm now anyway so hopefully that will clear it up.

Very similar thing on my filly. Hers was a type of baby virus - with the warmer, wetter weather its perfectvirus breeding weather. She also had a slight oedema in all 4 legs which seems to be part of the virus too.
She had some antibiotics and is now right as rain.

Would be worth checking inside her mouth, on her gums and tongue as if they are in places less likely a horse could have bitten themselves or caused by buttercups it could just be a small virus she may have picked up.

Thanks guys. We've got loads of buttercups in the field so I'd guess it's a burn or an ulcer so will stick a bit of bongela on it :)

Bigyellowhorse - thanks for that, will check her mouth this evening if she lets me! Depending on her mood I can either her mouth fine or she refuses to let me near it
