Can anyone help me by telling me what they think this lump is on my horses nose?

Please see the pic attached to my profile.

I have had the vet out and he thinks its from a trauma and told me to put him on bute for four days, I also rubbed arnica on it twice a day.

He has now had it 3 weeks and it hasn't gone down at all and it moves. In fact I think it has spread.

It doesn't seem to both him much, but I'm worried that it could be something else.

Has anyone had a similar lump? should i have it scanned?

He has had abit of snot coming out of that nostril, but I put it down to him being in for two weeks.

Any advice greatly received.

I would hazard a guess as some kind of abcess, could be caused from a split tooth or some sort of infection in the mouth - a horse on our yard had something that looked exactly the same and the vet cut that open and a lot of puss came out, the owner has tried for 6 months to stop it but has now been told the tooth has to come out which will cost her 4K so make sure hes insured (shes not)! :)

Only been in due to our fields being shut.
I asked if it was a haematoma, but he said didn't think so.
Now have thick yellow snot coming out of that nostril, every now and again
 
Thank you for your advice, you have me worried now, as that's what I think it is, he's never been the same since the dentist did his teeth. He's also not happy at all to have his bridle on and keeps chucking his head up.
I also don't have him insured as have had bad experiences with insurers, so just put the money away each month, haven't got that much though!
 
Picture is up now. Not sure what it is but looks like a bite or a sting reaction. Could be something that's been snorted up the nose and got stuck in the soft tissue causing a swelling? Strange lumps like that usually vanish in 24 hours. Is it just that side or is it both sides of the nose?
 
Sorry, being a numpty, just seen the 'he's had it three weeks' bit. Yes, agree with the tooth abcess line of thought after that much time.
 
I would get your vet back out to have another look if he's had it for the past three weeks. Tell the vet about him not being the same since the dentist and not liking his bridle being put on as well, something which seems like naughty behaviour could be a sign of something not nice going on in his mouth.

When did your vet last see him? Have you spoken to them since, or since the 4 days of bute finished?

I'd definately get the vet back asap, or a different vet if you want a second opinion.

I hope it's nothing too serious & that you get to the bottom of it :(
 
We have a yearling at work that has a lump like this that stems from the inside of his nose and is getting bigger. It is a cyst and needs attention from the vet. Seems like your horse may have the same. Is your vet a horse vet? I would get a second opinion and have the horse scoped.
 
My vet saw him two weeks ago. I then spoke to him after I had given him bute and told him it was still there, he said to give him another week off to make sure the bridle didn't rub then as he felt it wasn't bothering him to get back on and ride, even though I tried to tell him he wasn't happy to have the bridle on.
I spoke to him the other day to say he had a yellow discharge coming from that nostril ( although there was no smell) so he said put him on antibiotics and would prob improve anyway when he's turned out.
I'm not convinced as he's been funny about his bridle since Nov, even though there was no lump then.
I think rather than give him the atibiotics ( which just keeps adding to the cost) I think we need to know what it is first, don't you?
 
Yes my vet is supposed to be a very respected horse vet. He told me to give him antibiotics, but I think we need to know what it is first, don't you?
