if (and its a very speculatative if) he was driven could the general over development in his back end come from pulling something way to big and heavy for his size?
No part of the driving harness goes in or on that V. None of our ponies have anything like that, but they are well muscled behind when they are tought to drive correctly. If his schooling is good then it could be this, but if he was driven by pikeys they would have him with a big, onthe forhand front end. As for pulling somthing to heavy I would have thought they would get on the forehand, but not 100%
TBH a well schooled driving horse should have the same development as a well schooled ridden horse.
Have to say i have 3 driving ponies and its never happened to them. Bramble was driven for about 2 hours a day. Also a friend has about 15 driving ponies and horses, most of which came from gypsys. 3 are drievn over about 10/12 miles a day and none have ever looked like that
Be very interesting to find out why its like that though.

That could have something to do with it i suppose, but im not saying it is. Also if the vehicle was too heavy his chest would up over develpoed too. Don't forget thats where they pull from.

I said in one of my earlier posts that I would also have expected him to be over muscled infront if it was from driving.

Don't know a lot about driving at all - but what about if the braking was defective?- ie. the pony was having to take all the strain either downhill or to stop the trap/cart/ whatever?
I can just imagine the muscular area taking the strain as the weight went onto a breeching strap if the brake didn't work?
Only other time I have seen similar muscle build up was on a severe laminitic - but the 5 stage rules that out.
