Certainly not the under-run heels or the long toe. :( I wonder if the horse has won the poor hoof crap shoot and has contracted heels too?

That's the guess Gloi, not seen anything quite so big with regards to a wedge/can't fathom how the horse moves though.

Most likely a tendon tear where tension on the tendon must be reduced/removed. Almost certainly the horse will be on box rest, as the shoe is being used as a splint.

Is it stitches you can see above the coronet with some blood down the front?

Wow, can only imagine the muscle and posture issues this will cause, hopefully the horse has regular physio!

I saw this too on Facebook last night and was completely flummoxed as to what that was supposed to do.

If I were advertising in a new area, I'm not sure I'd use that picture…!!!!

Ah I see the stitch too now SF.

And no, I couldn't understand why one would use it to advertise really.

and an xray, presumably of the original angles/shoeing - reverse rotated pedal bones but hopefully other stuff going on too for that shoe!

Horse had a severed deep digital flexor (DDTF)tendon after it was injected into it's coffin joint and got infected (meep!) and has reverse rotation because of the severed tendon. He used the wood so he could reduce the angle easily as time went on.

Wow, poor horse! I thought the stitches looked coffin jointy, that sounds awful what happened - so the tendon severed because of the infection?
