My poor lad is out naked and has been fine for the last 4 or 5 weeks but last night the temp must have dropped to about 1 or 2 degrees and despite having loads of hay to eat he was cold this morning...

Am having to bring him in at lunch time to let him dry off for the afternoon so that I can rug him tonight... I hate chopping and changing between rugging and unrugging but he was shivering and I feel very mean :(

I'm in herts... I know you're not that far from me but I know that the weather really does vary as my friend lives up near you and she hasn't had nearly as much 'weather' as us this winter...

It's not raining at the moment but we are due heavy rain and sleet overnight and over the next few days so if I don't get him in to dry off, I won't get a rug on him...

I'm far from soft but when I see my horse literally shivering I know I need to do something..

I know... I am relatively fortunate - it could be a lot worse... It was just general observation and not a 'please feel sorry for me' post... I do feel for you guys up there!

All this weather - whether driving rain or blizzards after bright sunshine and mild temps makes managing the neds a bit of a headache thats all...

It's a pain isn't it. I thought I was safe to pack away my winter woollies
My TB has gone back to wearing his heavyweight, and my ancient shire cross, who'd been enjoying a bit of nakedness, or just a rain sheet the last couple of weeks has his middleweight back on today.

My boys have a more extensive wardbrobe than I do, and I tend to rug according to what it feels like that day, but I wasn't expecting it to suddenly get so cold again. Brrrrrrr I lost all the feeling in my hands this morning!

im in kent and even here its horrible ,wet and windy ive just been down to put a new under rug on my mare who tends to lose weight quickly she dropped slight and cant risk her losing anymore .
gelding is quite happy .
but its getting to a point even im getting bored , no grass, wet and windy and running out of hay !!!

It wouldnt be so bad if it were consistant!
In the space of an hour and a half, i've had glorious sunshine, then torrential rain, and now its hailing....the only consistent bit is its blooming cold!
However I have FINALLY got grass *smirks*

mine are back in HW and under rugs....brrrr...nasty chill in the air again and we are promised sleet this afternoon, nice.

iv got a 3 day clinic at my yard this weekend, i REALLY hope it cheers up a bit :(

It's **** - I bagged HW 26 rugs from the yard for cleaning, repair and re-proofing and had them collected only last weekend when it was a blamy 14 degrees.

This morning I was woken at 1.30am by aboslutely, sheeting torrential rain, I then slept fitfully knowing Finn is living out and feeling really guilty!

It must have been bad becuase when Mr Worried got up to feed this morning he said: "Shall I bring Finn in?"

So Finn was, when I left for work, in the solariam warming up (as the temperature was just 3 degrees) and tucking into a rather large haynet :D

Where has spring gone?...

I very nearly sent my HW rugs off to be cleaned too! But luckily didn't, wussy arab is back in his now. Old girl and youngster currently toughing it out in their MWs with a fleece underneath at night but tbh might put them back in HW tonight as well as all are now out for the "summer"!

thats just it... If it was just cold, I wouldn't be too worried asnd if it were just wet, I wouldn't be too worried (he could do with shrinking a bit!) but it's cold AND wet... rubbish! he's onlky got one rug so he'll have that on for the next day or two...
