What is this weed?

Don't know how to post a pic but does anyone recognise the description:
Tall weed, red/purple spiky stem with green pointy spiky leaves, several daisy like flowers all-yellow (not buttercup-like).

That's no description at all - I could name about 10 different plants it could possibly be. Take a photo of it then we'll have more of a chance, preferably with a close up of the leaves too.
 
Might be ragwort therefore pull it up, since I can't off hand think of a yellow plant such as you describe the pulling up of which would be illegal or even detrimental.
Could be lots of things but frankly you don't need any of them

Could be woad I suppose, with which, if you are in fact trolling, you may go and dye yourself blue.

Bless!! It's what I called my German horse 'Herman' when he arrived without a name ... silly!!

Me too! I never spotted it until you said it!
 
I have after wondered whether it was Herman German or Her man, German or Her manger man or Her mangerman. Now I know.
