Please could anyone enlighten me on what this is? I've never seen it before and I was wondering if any wise ones here could help.

It's on my mares back hooves just below the coronary band ..it's soft and but not hot and seems to have appeared over the last 3 months...

few notes which might help:
She has a diet of nuts w/ small amount of flaked maize, oil and ACV.
She lives out 24/7

She appears sound although she does have a locking stifle but since ive returned (from uni) it seems that she is sitting under herself a little more than normal..

Thanks in advance!

sorry about low pic quality

I would be more concerned with the wavy line in her hoof growth , dont want to worry you but thats what my mares feet were like before she got laminitis

my first mare had that on her hoof turned out it was like our cuticles if we dont push them back , stays on hoof , i had to use a blade and remove it .

Not saying it is but looks similar

Thanks for your advice!
Will get the farrier out asap :)

& she's also recently had her shoes taken off
Its absolutely normal for a recently deshod horse. The periople is protecting the newly growing horn as it keratinizes, and in a recently deshod horse its stretching further down because the new stimulus the foot is receiving is generating a quicker growth rate. All good stuff and what I'd expect to see.

Echo wavy line in the wall, but don't panic, about it.
