What is wrong with my filly's incisors?

No pics unfortunately; but the dentist is coming out and I want to know what to expect.

A few weeks ago I noticed my girl had some general redness at the gumline of her incisors. She is eating properly, is not snotty, and isn't doing anything irregular with her mouth or lips. No quidding, etc. Her breath has gone from smelling bloody this last week to smelling like death - but that is the only sign that something is wrong dental wise. One of the affected teeth is now dark brown along the gumline, with what appears to be a sizeable "chip" peeling from the front at the top of the tooth. Still no obvious pain, swelling, salivating, snotty nose, quidding, etc. She has always dribbled when she eats and it's hard to tell if its gotten worse because of how messy she can be normally. Everything else about her teeth and gums seem fine.

At first I thought she might have been teething but now I don't think that's the case at all. I haven't seen anything that looks vaguely like this come up when searching for "normal" dental problems besides periodontal disease, which is close but not exact, and I don't have any horsey friends to ask. Any advice or ideas would be very much appreciated!!

Take a Google at EOTRH. I hope it's not for your sake and hers.

Thank you for the suggestion! I've had a quick look and I'm not sure she fits any of the early symptoms and she's taking hard treats and drinking. I forgot to mention in my original post that she's a 2 1/2 year old Dartmoor and has never had any health or dental problems before now. The bad breath and redness comes and goes also - the only thing I can think is that she's just come off a year of bad loan where her diet was changed and she was allowed to eat people food regularly, like chocolate and pepsi.

I think this what my vet thinks my shetland might have. ?

He noticed yesterday that one of her incisors is loose and had some mild inflammation/infection to the gum.

He's asked me to give her a carrot to see if she bites into it with her incisors or not.

The ‘chip’ peeling from the top of the tooth sounds like a normal dental cap. I’d go with teething. She has the right age for it.

Does sound like teething. I remember seeing my first teething and I thought the horse had been kicked in the face lol

It sounds like when my youngster lost her incisor caps - I think she was a similar age, possibly a little older. Hers did get stuck and the vet had to come and remove them, she also had some antibiotics as she had a bit of infection.

If you look at post 11 on the sticky post at the top of the Vet forum, you can see them before and after removal - https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/...ll-your-horse‘s-veterinary-conditions.301510/
