Also in vet section but no replies so was hoping somebody in here would have some ideas it similar experiences. Could this be a simple as a bruised sole?
I am desperately trying to stay positive but after makin the fatal mistake of googling I am now thinking the worst.

Background is that mare pulled right fore shoe off in field 3 weeks ago. Brought in and dry poulticed straight away. No signs of puncture wound or anything. Shoe found and all nails accounted for.

Was quite lame until shoe put back on. Was fine for a few days. Did short hack, lunged and then longer hack over next few days and a lesson. The only thing that showed up was that she was slightly off at the end of a lunge session so stopped. Fine next day on hack though did only walk.

Brought her out for another lesson day after hack and was quite lame on right fore.

Farrier came back out found nothing on either front foot. Thought looked more like right hind so took shoe of that aswell and found nothing.

Called vet who came few days later, at this point was about 2 weeks after losing shoe. Horse very lame in trot on right fore. Slightly noticeable in walk. She is now booked in for full lameness work up. Vet thinks is right fore and most probably in the foot and nothing anywhere else.

I am praying is some bruising taking its time to heal though would this cause her to become worse? Am dreading it being something more sinister

Thanks for reading if anybody has got this far x

Is horse on box rest? Mine had a bruised sole a few months ago. As me or vet didn't know what is was at the time as it could have been lami or an abscess a week of box rest was prescribed and that sorted her out. Until that point she was lame on and off for about a week when I rode but it was nothing too bad until one night I rode for a bit longer and she seemed crippled, hence vet was called. The farrier had also been out that week but hadn't spotted anything, but I daresay being shod didn't help the situ. Fingers crossed it is just a bruised sole that hasn't had chance to heal yet.

Hi yes is on box rest and is very grumpy about it. Am hoping for bruise or abscess but would it not have resolved now after 3 weeks?

Don't start googling symptoms because all you'll do is worry yourself sick over what might & might not be wrong. You have got the vet involved & it's his job to find out what's wrong.

I woke up this morning with a head ache, I've still got it. If I google I'll probably convince myself that I've got a brain tumor........... but I may just have a headache........ but I'm sure now it's a tumor. See, don't waste your time, just let your vet get on with it. It may take some time but hye will find out. Good Luck.

Thanks I am a nurse so should know never to google symptoms :)
She is worse today so am hoping maybe an abscess working its way out? Will maybe ring vet tomorro and see whether it worth poulticing or not

My pony was lame on two occasions in the summer. He won't box rest so the first time I had to turn him out and he improved slowly over a week and was fine again.

Then about a month later he was so lame he couldn't walk. I really thought he must have a broken leg or something (my other horse broke his leg so I'm super paranoid)

Phoned my vet who said he thought it sounded like an abscess, and as he was coming the next day anyway to try leaving him in. I poulticed it overnight. Next day vet came, did all the pinch tests and couldn't get a reaction, nerve blocked and isolated it to his foot. We started to consider all sorts of awful possibilities like a fracture pedal bone. Arranged for vet to come back out with X-ray machines later in the week, turned my horse out the next day as he was a bit better and started to think it was the end of the road as he really won't box rest. Poulticed daily and did see a bit of black gunk. Farrier came too and said he couldn't try to dig unless we knew where it was. He's a good boy and would stand in a bucket of very warm water and salt which seemed to help

Every day he improved slightly so I was able to rule out a fracture. Week later her was totally back to normal and no sign of any issues. About a month or two later I think he developed a deep crack /hole in the side of his hoof - so we concluded it must have been a deep high up abscess.

Abscesses can cause really bad lameness almost instantly and are really hard to find sometimes. Fingers crossed that's what it is.

Mudmonkey - Blue was lame for about 3 months starting this time last year and despite lameness work ups and x-rays, it ended up being a simple abscess - so don't get too down about it yet! On the x-rays, there was a lump on the pedal bone which vet thought was a bony growth. I actually now think that was the abscess. She was booked to go to Leahurst only three days after the abscess burst for an MRI scan - now that would have been an expensive abscess!!! There was no heat, no reaction to hoof testers - nothing until it actually burst out! Hope you get an answer. x

Could well be a bruise. My TB was prone to bruising and one particular bad bruise took about 6 weeks to get over. Can she have a tiny pen in the field instead of box rest? May be more fun for her if she has to be restricted for a while.

Thanks holly hocks that is reassuring :) I am hoping for abscess or bruise as has followed from losing the shoe. Sprig have tried turning her out in small pen with her best mate but she goes mad and then comes in worse :(

She may just have bruised her sole. My mare did it recently. Lives out 24/7. Threw a shoe; blacksmith couldn't come for over a week. She took about 10 days after re-shoeing to come sound again. Just gave her time and small amounts of Danilon. Made full recovery and fit as a flea now.

Thanks that is good to hear. Feeling a bit more positive now have read some of these. Just need to wait and see what vet finds this week.

A similar thing happened to my friends cob. The farrier couldn't find anything and neither could the vet. He was so lame they thought he might have broken something so went in for xrays etc. Turned out it was just an abscess which took awhile to form and burst and he fully recovered.

Has she got a bounding digital pulse? If she has an abcess, then she will likely have a pulse. You can find it around the fetlock area. Abcesses can be frustrating, if thats what it is.

Ah thanks holly hocks she going in tomorrow so should have some answers fingers crossed by Thursday.
Horsemadmum doesn't have a bounding pulse unfortunately x
