Had my horse 4 years. Know her inside out. Fit polocrosse pony. Got her in from field Tuesday. Got on to ride. Had to put my leg on in walk, lost her sparkle. Usually jogs every where. Trotted. Not forward as usuall not lame but felt like the back end had dropped. Got off muscle twitching. Vet came next day. Horse not twitching anymore but still not keen to move at any rate. Back end still dropped she has no sparkle. Horses all galloping around the field horse just stood there. Vet checked. (Not usual vet) as it was her day off. Shame as Usual vet know horse well as has ridden her. To be honest vet came across as if nothing was wrong but agreed to take blood. I know my horse. There is something wrong for sure. Any ideas. I though Azotoria. Although the muscles where not hard. Vet said not.

I'm not obsessed really but was laminitis ruled out? Sore feet is a common reason for horses reluctant to move, less responsive or stiff etc.

She did say horse may have sore feet. Then checked feet and not sore. But would this cause muscle twitching? Thanks for your thoughts Amadap. It could well be. I wonder if signs of cushings maybe?

Muscles twitching can be due to pain or trying to avoid/reduce pain by holding themselves in funny ways to relieve pain.
Laminitis is one sign of Cushings and or EMS.

Thanks Amandap. Will let you all know when results are in. So out of character for her and horrible to see her so unhappy.

Following the protocol for acute laminitis wont hurt in the meantime and it may help.

ps. Hope she's feeling better soon whatever it is.

I wonder if she has fallen in the field and hurt herself. This would account for her not wishing to move around. It would also account for the inflammatory response showing up in the bloods.

Thanks for all your help guys. Lets hope the antibiotics. Perk her up. This girl has been a star in polocrosse and sad to see her so poorly.

Mine was doing all those things and similar blood test he had a slight bladder infection. Antibiotics quickly had him right again. Hope you find out and she gets better soon

Just make sure its not the on set of myopathy, I am a little bit obsessed with it! The symptoms start with lethargy and muscle twitches. Do you have sycamores??

Yes I am too but it was a urine infection. He had a camera into his bladder and the walls were inflamed. Picked up a couple of hours after first lot antibiotics been fine ever since; that was around Christmas

Be aware of ATypical Myopapthy (sycamore poisioning ) as above said .I lost 2 horses thru this and it is very hard to put your finger on anything exactly .Luckily my vet was brilliant and aware of it and saved a third gelding .They appear depressed and lethargic ,sometimes go off feed ,drink loads and urine tends to go dark red/orange.The test is to get someone to lead and someone to pull on horses tail to one side and see if they lose their balance.Sometimes get respiratory problems and display colicky symptons .Read up on it if not familiar as its certainly worth knowing

I may have misunderstood, but have you ruled out a problem in her back???

My horse was having similar symptoms, one day he felt like he could jump the moon, the next i got on and i felt as if i could do nothing with him. my boys symptoms were obvious to being muscle discomfort which we believe now to be cause by an issue in his hocks...

but during all of this i was researching problems in the sacroiliac and a few symptoms of yours matched

poor performance, dropping the quaters, lack of impulsion, palpation at the point of pain, sinking from saddle, resisting forward movement

hope you find out what the problem is!
