Just Curious to see how many people still give a proper good groom pretty much every day!

Mine tends to be to use a Dandy to brush off the mud, then use a body brush all over (and a rubber curry comb if they're molting!) brush through the mane, then pick out feet. Then if I've ridden, they'll get a sponge down if they have been very sweaty and another body brush all over.

What do you do? I know some people who groom for ages, and some that basically just pick out feet!

I'm an awful owner :o

The two natives probably won't get brushed more then once or twice all Winter but they are out naked so need the natural oils in their coat (that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it :p )

The clipped TB gets hot clothed once a week but only a quick brush before I ride (all mud removed) on the other days, I tend to brush his mane down when I'm doing his rugs (morning and evening) as it drives me mad when it sticks up!

My 2 get a good groom and feet picked out every morning before they go out either for exercise or turn out. If they've been ridden they get a quick flick over on return and feet checked for any stones. When they come in the evening they get groomed again as its a good chance to check for any injuries they may have picked up during the day, feet also done again. If either of them are kept in if they are unwell they still get groomed morning and evening.

I brush off all the mud with a dandy, then flick over him with a flicky brush, then mane and tail brushed through and his face, then finally hooves are picked out. I spend more time over it in the summer :D

Cos mine live out they get all mud removed, feet picked out, eyes and nose wiped, mane and tail combed and check dock area to see if I need to clean it. I always give each a once over with a dandy brush too.:)

I prob groom my horse 4-5 times per week (he is rugged). Most of those times (not all) i'll give him full groom including mane and tail, pick out his feet and brush on some effol onto his hooves. Depends how much time i have really.

I groom Tont once a day during the week, and twice a day on the weekends :)

I brush him all over with the dandy brush, brush his face, and then comb his mane. I use the body brush daily in the summer, but not in the winter as he's living out. I do have a bit of OCD though, so I get a bit obsessive about grooming him. I've been known to groom him five times a day sometimes :p

Every day. She has a lovely shiney coat and is very dusty. She rolls so it's a plastic curry comb, flick with a dandy brush and then body brush. I comb her mane and tail most days too. She has a rub down after riding, her feet are hosed every day.

Not often enough. He is given a quick brush over and mane and tail brushed before going out for a ride and a brush off the saddle area afterwards.

If I am entered in a show I groom him properly for about 2 weeks before, every day and I am always impressed at how much better he looks!

Every night! Feet picked out and a quick squirt of Milton solution, Snip is out of work and unclipped so he's very hairy, he gets top to bottom with a shedding blade to remove the mud (he's a roller!) and use a hair brush on his mane (tails are plaited and in bags) then all over with a flick brush...if he's dusty he gets a once over with a wrung out, damp micro fibre cloth then body brushed/sheepskin mitted to finish off.

Rhythm is clipped so he gets dandy brushes on any muddy bits, mane brushed, then body brushed all over. If he's been sweaty he gets the cloth treatment once dry, to remove any dried sweat, then brushed once dry.

I groom my boy every time I ride him so approximately five times per week (although I pick his feet out everyday.) My grooming routine is: pick out his feet, comb through his mane and tail, brush body and legs with a dandy brush/plastic curry comb if muddy, brush face with body brush and sponge eyes and nose if necessary. After I have ridden, if I have been hacking I will check his feet again for any stones, sponge off any sweaty areas and give him a flick over with a long bristled dandy brush. When he is clipped out, he gets a full groom with a body brush instead of a dandy brush. :)

Merlin's a native youngster who's out unrugged and growing a big hairy. So now we're out of a full summer coat groom, he gets the dried mud flicked off with a dandy, mane and tail brushed through, legs brushed out unless wet and hooves well....we're still working through our 'Don't you know I'm a wild animal I couldn't possibly give you one of my legs' issues at the mo  so that's work in progress!
He's one of those weird-but-convenient types tho who always manages to keep himself looking relatively tidy with minimal grooming, which is handy! :D

I read the word 'daily' with horror. I groom before I ride and maybe occasionally at other times as a kind of a bonding thing. Respect to those who really do groom daily.

When I've finished mucking out on a morning I give my girl a good groom and brush her mane & tail as its normally covered in shavings :) Once a week I give her a hot wipe over with an old dish cloth.

Hahaha. Dude, you know flicky brush isnt what its called, right? :p

I don't routinely. They all live out. The yearling is naked so he doesn't get groomed - I do handle him all over though so I would notice if the fluff is hiding anything! The others get a flick off when ridden. They get a slightly more comprehensive groom if I'm competing, but other than that, not much. The ridden ones are clipped to some degree or other and therefore are rugged so clean around the saddle area and just need a quick flick.

Come spring, they get a proper groom and bath ready for the main competing season :D

I pick his feet out on a daily basis but when I ride, I brush his legs with a dandy brush and then start on his mane and tail with a de-tangler and conditioner, once the tail is finished I run through it with a soft body brush. I then start on the body with a rubber curry comb and a body brush, going from the neck down :)

Mine gets a good groom with curry, dandy and soft body brush and feet picked out in the mornings, sponged off after a ride and then a quick flick over before he's rugged and turned out for the night. I like giving him a good groom at least once a day and feel a bit mean if I don't have time. also gives me the opportunity to check for injuries - to which he is prone!

Spend a bit more time on him at the weekends - brush through his tail and the occasional trim and tidy-up.

Quick brush and feet picked before being ridden. Then in the evening they get curry combed to remove any mud, dandy brushed body brushed, strapped and then wiped over with a cloth. Feet done and oiled and manes dampened over. I never brush their tails unless they are going somewhere and they get washed show sheened and fingered out.

I do this every day on four horses but they do look well!!

When rugged; pick out feet & wipe face/clean eyes daily.
A few times a week I'll fully brush out his mane and tail and give him a flick over with the dandy brush.

Pretty much it1

This :D

I do flick off the worst of the mud with a dandy brush and feet are picked out at least once a day, usually twice.

My boy has a very thick winter coat and is out 27/7 at the moment. I pick out his feet daily and get the worst of the mud off if it is dry. I check his bottom is clean. I will give the bottom of his tail the occasional swish in a bucket of water, dry off and put mane & tail conditioner through it to help stop the mud sticking.

At this time of year, daily doesn;t really come into it.....

I have two natives, living out 24/7, naked. They have feet picked out daily, and most days while I am waiting for the TB to eat and can;t be bothered to poo pick, I give them a scratch over with a plastic curry comb - they both seem to get itchy probably due to their very thick coats. I bring them in at the weekend and give a better groom but still not all that thorough given that they live out. I ride one so mud is removed where the tack goes!

The TB lives out and is rugged, and also is not keen on grooming. He comes in at weekends and also has a good groom.

I shine a torch at them every evening to check there are no injuries!!

Markie is strapped 4/5 times per week, in the mornings, usually takes about 45 minutes (it's my workout too!). He's brushed off on the other 2/3 days. I'm trying not to brush his mane and tail too much, just detangling with my fingers and using conditioning spray.

depends how lazy I feel !
Tend to use the long toothed rubbery curry comb to loosen and get all the mud off, then go over with the short curry to get whats left over/finer pieces of mud!
Then brush down with body brush, comb mane, run hand thru tail picking out
hay/mudballs/god knows what else that have tangled themselves in the mass of what is her tail.
Wipe eyes and face with baby wipes, in summer when coat is short get all the dust out over the body with baby wipes as well.
Pick feet out, usually running braid in mane, done!
