Thanks for the replies. Had some Christmas money left over and was looking for ideas!

Just purchased:
- Train Your Young Horse with Richard Maxwell: An Effective Education from Foal to Fully Grown
- War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
- 100 Ways to Improve Your Riding: Common Faults and How to Cure Them by Susan McBane
- Horses Never Lie: The Heart of Passive Leadership by Mark Rashid

You can't go wrong with these :)

I'm using the Richard Maxwell one with my 5yr old. excellent guide and I'm going back to these basics with my older one.
war horse is a good read and I found it emotional.
All the Mark Rashid ones are fab and enjoyable reading.

Non-fiction - any of Charles de Kunffy's books (dressage)

Non-fiction - Six Ponies by Josephine Pullein-Thompson. I have a very old hardback copy which I was given by my aunt when I was 9 and I have read it to death. Several decades later it is still my favourite.

Eventing Trilogy by Caroline Akrill - totally legendary!

Fly-by-Night by K.M. Peyton - more 'gritty' and realistic but equally brilliant

Up, Up and Away by Lucinda Prior-Palmer - proof that dreams could come true! :)
