What is your favourite thing about your horse?

I love the way my boy is so steady in traffic but capable of a really 'fun' ride. I love the way he neighs to me every time I go near him. Also the way he shows me where to scratch 'the itch' or where he has a horse fly to kill. The way if I've been on holiday, he does everything except throw his front legs round my neck he is so pleased to see me.

Just love him I guess!

Jane

cloud- her wonderful, willing nature, so much that she covered up her lameness :( and her sunny constant happiness.
misty- everything really, she is just amazing, but mostly the way she looks after me.
matrix- he is my little man, i love him and his fiesty, sometimes difficult nature, because it is always worth it :D

It is hard to pinpoint something about Seren, she has been a truly brilliant horse in all ours years together, bar the very, very rare mishap. I love her kind and willing nature, she is a great horse who I do love to pieces :D

Gosh! Where do I start.

... the way he looks after me when big scarey helicopters decide to fly right over us

... the funny way he whinney-hoo-hah's when I take his feed bowl to him; a bit like a rhinocerus really!

... the funny faces he pulls when I find his itchy bits

... the uncanny/psychic way he knows when I've got worm dose in my jacket pocket and rushes to the back of the stable

... ditto with the vet

Right...

Honey - How she can read my mood so quickly. She will cheer me up when im down by leaning her head onto my chest & letting me just smell her (may sound strange here, but she has the smell that just makes me happy!) & if im in a good mood so is she & will be really playful with me.

Elke - she used to be a s*** when she was younger, but has become a fav now with her cheeky habits & naughty but nice personality.

Dex - his amazing afro & ability to give the best kisses in the world! & that he trusts me to do almost anything with him.

Alice - her super chilled personality, esp for a yearling & the way she rests her head on your shoulder when your doing up the buckles on the front of her rug.

Shay - the progress she has made from an unhandled, scruffly, ugly, petrified weanling, to a confident (sometimes too much) gorgeous yearling!

& the 2 i have lost this past year:
Lucky - his amazing voice everytime he saw your
Burt - being the BFG that he was

Fany - Her obssession with food and her ongoing love affair with a TB gelding.

But most of all I love her kindness, from standing absolutely still when a toddler went to sleep on her to her adopting a yearling filly and protecting it from a dominant mare, she is a sweetheart!

Captain- I love the way he pretends to be so independent and cool, but gets into a state if we leave him before he is ready. I love his determined mind, quirky character and his opinions. The way he loves to have his flash scratched and his ears pulled despite the fact that when we got him he was so headshy we used to take 20 mins to get his bridle on.

But most of all I love that he has given us his trust despite the abuse he had before we owned him.

Guess who is a proud mum?

Well as he is up for sale , i love it when people come and try him and when we walk out on the lanes he always stops and looks where i am , and when i walk somewhere he will try and look for me when he is tied up , and i love how much we understand eachother like the back of our hands ( for him hoof) And i love how he always suprises people :)

My horses sillyness and smartness ... sometimes :p
He usually gets hard feed before haylage so if you give him haylage first he stares at you as if to say "ummm i think your missin somethin love  " ... then he throws the haylage around the stable in search of hard feed lol. He also soaks his own haylage by taking a mouth full of haylage then a mouth full of water and spits it all over the haylage, repeating until the haylage is soaked and a river emerges from under the haylage silly moo :D Also think its cute when he winnies at me and nudges for a treat

I love everything about my horses but heres a few of my favourites....

Paddy- The way he stands at the top of the field whinnying at me but wont ever come down!!
The way he tries to bite everyone apart from me :D

Goggles- The way that he can be a complete goon but still make me laugh even if i'm sat on my butt watching him fly off round the menage!!
The way that he is so loving and loves a cuddle!

Burt- This horse is just 150% Genuine and will try anything, if he is unsure he will just stop and stare, no funny business just genuine boy :)

I love Jas because she makes me smile. She gallops like a loony if the pony is put in his stable and she's left in the field, she dislikes moving faster than a walk, and she'd rather watch competitions than partake. She is liable to have tantrums because of smallest of things..

..however, she lets my nervous Mum and 11yr old sister hack her, does pony rides for my sister's friends, taught my boyfriend to ride, and she always looks so pleased to see me :) I love the way she cuddles me with her neck and follows me round her field, and if I go somewhere she keeps looking for me.

I think my favourite thing though is the fact she has given me so much confidence and taught me so much.

His smell...the way he nuzzles your hands for treats...the way he makes every jump feel effortless...the way he flies when we go for a gallop...the way he whinnies when I take him his tea...to be honest I could go on forever, I have so many favourite things about that horse :)

I love how my horse loves me as much as I love him. When I got him 2 years ago he was very much misunderstood and had been abused by people and didn't trust anyone. Now I can do anything with him and he always tries his hardest for me. He stands at the gate as soon as he sees me coming and if I break into a run so will he.He gives the biggest cuddles ever and loves to be scratched in his itchy spots. One of the biggest and most memorable comments I ever had was from a total horsey stranger who said how lovely it was that she could see in my horses face how much he adored me.

aw this made me smile- makes me think of my boy :-)

as for mine- his incredibly expressive ears!!!! in fact, his entire face- i can read him like a book :-)

hmmmm so many things....:D
the way he whinnies when he see's me drive up near the stables-always makes me smile, the way he loves hugs and almost falls asleep, how he watches wherever i go when i walk round the yard, the way he follows me around,if he spooks at something he just needs you to say 'its ok!' and all is forgotten, and how he's always easy to get in from the field even if his friends are all staying there-was i only supposed to say one thing :D

I love love love hacking him out on our own! His little ears when we are trotting, jumping over and avoiding puddles at all costs even though he will happily go into water and the way I can turn round when hacking on the way home and he will toddle off away from home again with no fuss! Also when I hose his legs off or pick his feet he nibbles my hair!!

These are all so lovely - brought tears to my eyes!

Well, mine. First my ex-horses who have already passed away to the big meadows in the sky:

Cobweb: pony in a million. I love the way she was convinced she was a human being and couldn't be dealing with other horses. The way she could signal to me exactly what she wanted - once looking at me, pointing (actually pointing!) her nose at the lush field next to her own one, looking back at me and raising her front right hoof, which was always her way of saying please. Oh, and the way adored Walkers smokey bacon crisps, which happened to be my favourite too. I hate that she was taken away from me far too early.

Cilla: I love her because she had the biggest heart I've ever known a pony to have. And her lovely ears that were so big they were almost donkey-sized - and the way they flopped around and wiggled back and forth constantly when you were riding or talking to her. The fact that she always tried her absolute hardest to do whatever you wanted her to. I think if we had pointed her little 13.2hh self at one of the Burghley cross country fences, she would have given it a go.

Titch: When we got Titch from Wood Green as a companion she was your typical moody Shetland, and she absolutely hated children (I was 8 at the time) because of what a load of kids had done to her (it took WG two years to grow all her hair back because kids had flayed it off her - horrific). I loved that over the years I managed to wear her defences down with an awful lot of polos and carrots! Most of all I loved that from the moment she arrived she adored my usually anti-horse dad, who adopted her. Despite the fact that she was the most aggressive creature we've ever owned, and my dad is terrified of horses usually, he adored her.

And now my current lady:

Fleur: So many things I love about her -
- The way she doesn't act like she's 23 and doesn't seem to understand why me and my OH check on her so regularly and why I start crying on the rare occasions she shows her age.
- The way she is usually the sweetest horse in the paddock but is perfectly capable of reminding you that she's 3/4 Arab when she shows off in front of other horses - boy does she break out the arched neck, floaty trot and raised tail!
- The way she will sniff literally everything I touch her with - headcollar, my hand, rugs, anything.
- The way she's become a huge softie in old age.
- The way she has *literally* saved my life before by standing perfectly still when a lorry has rushed past us, 6 inches away from my foot, at 60mph. But will she go anywhere near the terrifying painted lines on the road? No sirree.
- The way she treated my dog, who we got as a puppy at the same time we got Fleur, and who has had to be PTS last year, like a sister, greeting her with her nose every time she saw her. Once, when Pan had got into the field without us noticing and Fleur was running around in a panic (not because of Pan), she actually jumped over Pan when she noticed her little sis was in her war path. We had been convinced Pan was going to be trampled.
- The way she wouldn't stop nuzzling my mum when she wore an old jumper down to the field a few months ago. After a few minutes we realised that the jumper hadn't been worn or washed in about 5 years - the last time my mum wore it was around Cilla, and Fleur was sniffing her old friend. Heartbreaking.

Sorry, I've gone on for ages.

I love the way that whenever I turn up and wherever Vardi is, be it Dixie, stable, paddock or even working with the trainer as soon as he sees me or my OH he is ears pricked and head up going "Hello its my people"

I also love the way he always tries his hardest and desperately wants to get it right. When something clicks in I love the confident feeling he gives off a sort of "I can do this!" and I love the "My brain is fried mum" you get at the end of a schooling session.

I love the fact he is a comedian, and will pick up anything left in his vicinity and juggle it and the way he eats fruit pulps it then spreads it over the inside of his stable (saving it for later), his legs and often me!

I love the fact that even though he is only five he feels solid and sensible and I trust him to look after me.

Joe - everytime he does his "i'm dying" act costing me hundreds of pounds in vets fees and we talk about having him pts he does his best "but mum i'm still alive" act!

Jazz - well what can you say about the worlds most affectionate horse? cuddles all round

C- The way she watches me come across the field from the corner of her eye, munching faster as I get close, cos she knows its time to come in.
The way when there is trouble in the field, she moves away and watches rather than get involved.
Her huge lips and ears, they give her such a kind face.
the fact that despite all the flashy TB's on the yard the Pro photographer wanted to take her pictures.

M- his little whickers when he see's us.
The way he has been so brave over the last year of illness, and how well behaved he has been through six months box rest.

O- Everything, his gentle brown eyes,
the way he looked for me across the lorry parks,
how he could just turn it on and look WOW, but still feel so safe.
having a canter through the fields and rounding the corner and feeling him power up waiting for me to say go.
His gentle kisses when you asked for one,
his obsession with the colour red.
How despite being the leader he would leave the crowd when he saw me come for him.
How after almost a year without him I can smile when I think of him and be glad for all he taught me.

Little Lad - that he's come round to (maybe) believing that humans aren't out to get him and he doesn't have to get them first :). That'll he'll now stand and be touched, cuddled and groomed without walking through you and really not wanting to know. He'll whicker when he sees 'his' humans, which is probably food orientated, but at least he's associating humans with good stuff now :)

Little Cob - he's just a star. Can't come up with enough good words for the lad. Can put anyone on him and despite his comparative young years he'll go at the rider's pace/ability. The smiles and grins he's put on D1's face :D.

The Dizzy Blonde - everything. That she questions me, that she trusts me, that she will now carry D1 and take care of her, that she's tries her heart out and will share her last ounce of strength with me, that she is very vocal when she sees me (okay, so it's probably food or 'get me out of this stable', but hey :D). I love brushing her mane and she falls asleep with her head close to my body.

Tiggy - she taught me so much, and put up with so much. She was in pain, but never tried to get me off (maybe I would have done something about it all sooner if she had - hindsight is wonderful :( ). She trusted me and protected me; we were in the field one day, just about to open the gate and take her out, another horse went for her - I was between Tiggy's bod and the gate post, potentially very bad, but Tigs arched her body round me and blocked the other horse's 'attack'; she could so easily have squidged me and got out of the way and saved herself a battering, but she chose to protect me.

Mr Budster..the way he kisses me, opens his lips and nuzzles my face and hands
Saffi...just the way she looks at me, that's enough to just want to run over and cuddle her!
Wills...His funny whinny and when he gallops full pelt towards you! (he's only a mini)

had to add this - the way he lets me sit on him when he's lying down, so I can massage his neck, then he wobbles over and falls flat out asleep with his baby teeth on display. Priceless ! :)

The way he makes me feel normal. I may have to go to hospital pretty much weekly, but he doesn't care. He makes me feel as if I'm just a normal rider, and that I can do exactly what other people my age can do.
I love the way he likes to have kisses, and will leave his nose resting on my shoulder. I love the way he puts up with my wanting to hug him all the time. He never freaks out if I do something wrong, or trip or fall. He is my forever horse, and we can never part

that when he see's me his nostrils get bigger and he whinnies the softest noise and canters or trots to greet me if he's far away, melts my heart! and that he's let me do everything I've done with him so far

With Monkey it's just every time he 'lets me in' a little bit more. He came to us very head-shy, and fairly scared of humns. It's taken time, but the first time he whinnied at me when I went to get him in, the first time he walked towards me to let me catch him, and the first time he 'showed' me his tickly spot on his neck were magic. I suppose my 'favourite' thing about him is that, even though he's been so scared of everything, he's brave enough to give me the opportunity to show him that I'm not so scary. I hope that one day he'll become a bit of a 'cheeky' Monkey- it's in there somewhere. He's also very nice to cuddle!

the fact that he never needs mucking out, doesnt cost me a penny for shoes/ vet/ livery & on rainy days i know he is fine without me & i can just stay in bed!

my least favourite thing...

he doesnt exist :(
